Library announces October news, events
The Madison County Library has
announced its news and events for
October:
•Friends News: The fall book sale
made $3,106.25. “Thanks to all who
donated items and to our wonderful
volunteers who ran the sale,” Friends
of the Library members said. “Special
thanks to Sara Carter and Ann Davis
for their work organizing the sale and
scheduling volunteers to staff it.”
•Donations are always welcome at
the library. “We are currently accepting
donations of gently-used fall and win
ter holiday decor,” said staff members.
“We can no longer accept donations
of encyclopedias, VHS tapes, audio
cassettes, or records/LPs.”
•Shop the library's used books
online in its store on amazon.com from
seller madcolib.
•Donation drop-off: “We are serv
ing as a drop-off site for donations to
the Madison County Food Bank this
month.” organizer said. “Nonperishable
food and hygiene items may be placed
in the bin by the manager's office.”
•Tiebrary: Neckties are available for
checkout. If you have a need of one for
a special occasion, ties are on display
in the display cases and can be checked
out at the front desk.
•Crafts to go: Request at the front
desk or at curbside. This month’s
themes are: Creepy Carrots, Plumply
Dumply Pumpkin, Three Little
Ghosties, and It’s Raining Bats and
Frogs. Some may contain small parts.
•TeenTober: “We’re celebrating
teens this month!” library staff mem
bers said. “Each week we’ll have a
new activity just for teens including
interactive library displays, a scary
story writing contest, free books, and
spooky origami. Stop by or call for
more information.
•Teen Bookworm Bags: Claim your
bag of goodies. Each bag has a book
(to keep), a sweet treat and other good
ies. There are bags for ages 12-14
years and 14 and up, and all items
can be kept. Available at front desk or
curbside.
•Printing service: Attach and email
your pdf or Word documents to the
library at madcolib@yahoo.com and
the staff will print your documents
exactly as attached for 15 cents per
page, black and white only. Pickup
during regular library hours.
•Family book club: Books for all
ages to discuss and an activity kit for
the whole family.
•Outdoor storytime: Fridays, Oct.
1 and 15. 10:30 a.m. “Grab a blanket
and join us on the back lawn for stories,
songs, and fingerplays to encourage a
love of reading in little ones from birth
to age 5,” said library staff members.
Space is limited; call to register. Event
will be cancelled in event of inclement
weather.
•ARLS virtual teen book club:
Tuesday, Oct. 12, 5:30 p.m. Discuss
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas.
Copies are available at the library. This
meeting will be held virtually; call or
email to register.
•Adult book club: Tuesday, Oct. 12,
6:30 p.m. Discuss This Must be the
Place by Maggie O’Farrell. Copies are
available at the library and on Georgia

•All About Ada Lovelace virtual
program; Friday, Oct. 22. 4:30 p.m.

•Virtual anime club: Thursday,
Oct. 28, 5 p.m. Tweens and teens can
join virtually to watch an episode of
an anime and discuss your favorite
Japanese shows and manga.

4-H, KMCB to host litter cleanup Oct. 23
Madison County 4-H will co-host
a Rivers Alive litter cleanup Oct. 23
in partnership with Keep Madison
County Beautiful (KMCB).
Volunteers will meet in a central
location of the South Fork Branch
in Colbert from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
starting at the clearing of land marked
with event sign. The event is lim
ited to 20 participants. Volunteers
should call 706-795-2281 to register
in advance.
Rivers Alive is Georgia’s annual
volunteer waterway cleanup event
that targets all waterways in the
state, including streams, rivers, lakes,
beaches and wetlands. The mission
of Rivers Alive is to create awareness
of and involvement in the preserva
tion of Georgia’s water resources.
Rivers Alive is held annually each
fall and is a program of the Georgia
Environmental Protection Division
Outreach Program.
Church
•David’s Home Church will hold its annual homecoming
service Sunday, Oct. 3 beginning at 10 a.m. with special singing
by “The Brothers” singers. The Rev. Terry Fowler will bring the
homecoming message at 1 lam. There will be no meal after the
morning service. Revival services will be held Monday, Tuesday
and Wednesday, October 4, 5, and 6 beginning at 7 p.m. each
evening with Rev. Terry Fowler bringing the message. The
church is located at 1132 David’s Home Church Road, Comer.

•A S.W.A.G. Ministry worship event with B-Shoc will be
held Oct. 9 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Comer Fairgrounds. There
will be music, food, vendors, laser lights and fiin. The event
includes D-Earl, the S.W.A.G. praise team, L’za Williams, Pastor
Chuck Black and Pastor Checo Stowers. Tickets are $5 and can
be purchased by calling 706-621-1951. S.W.A.G. Ministries in
Comer is on Facebook.
•Freedom Church of God 3428 Neese Commerce Road
will distribute free food boxes on Tuesday Oct 19, Nov 16, Dec.
21 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Volunteers come at 1 p.m. to help setup
recipients should not arrive until 3 p.m. (must be present to
receive box.) You will remain in your car and drive thru. For more

•Faith Valley Holiness Church, located in the Harrison
Community just off of Hwy. 281 (Wildcat Bridge Road), will
have a benefit yard sale Saturday, Sept. 25, 8 a.m. to noon.
Breakfast biscuits will also be available for purchase. For more

•Danielsville Evangelical Church, 25 Evangelical Church
Road, Danielsville, will distribute food on the second Thursday
of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. For additional information,
call the church office at 706-795-3751.
•Legacy Baptist Church, 1850 Helican Springs Road, Hull
will have Compassion Team Monthly Food Distribution the first
Sunday of each month beginning at 5 p.m.
•Celebrate Recovery meets every Thursday evening at
Kingdom Life Refuge, 637 Lakeview Drive, Commerce. Doors
open at 6 p.m„ dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting
begins at 7 p.m. All meetings are free and open to the public.
“Come join us in finding healing from our hurts, habits, and
hang-ups together,” officials said.
•Colbert Baptist Church, 65 South Fifth Street, will distribute
food and have an open clothes closet on the second Tuesday of
each month from 10 a.m. until noon. For additional information,
call the church office at 706-788-2214.
•Moon’s Grove Baptist Church, 1985 Moon’s Grove Church
Road, Colbert, will distribute free food and clothes on the fourth
Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon, unless there is
a change because of a holiday. The remaining dates for 2021 are:
Oct. 27, Nov. 17 and Dec. 22. For more information, call 706-

•Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Hull, will
hold its monthly food giveaway and clothes closet on the third
Friday of the month, from 9 to 10 a.m. The remaining dates for
2021 are: Oct. 15, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17. “These food and clothes
giveaways are held for those who are in need of food for their
immediate family,” church leaders said. “Please note that all food
and clothes distributions are on a first-come, first-serve basis
and that it is fully funded by Gordon’s Chapel UMC,” church
leaders stated. “For food distribution, Gordon’s Chapel works in
coordination with the NEGA Food Bank. The food bank is held
at the Sanford Community Center, 6495 Nowhere Road, and
is currently operating as a drive-through. The clothes closet is
held in the green building next to the community center and will
observe social distance guidelines. Please stay in your vehicle
when you arrive at either location and follow signs and volunteer
directions.”
•Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 6625 Nowhere
Road, Hull, is holding regular services with social distancing
required and masks recommended. Services are also streamed live
on Facebook as well. Services are held Sunday mornings at 10
am. Sunday School is held prior to each service at 9 a.m. “If you
