Mitcham joins Charlotte Ballet as trainee
Addie Mitcham, Madison
County High School’s Class
of 2023 valedictorian and a
graduate of the Commerce
School of Dance, has accepted
a contract to join the Charlotte
Ballet as a trainee.
Mitcham has been partici
pating in the Ballet’s advanced
summer intensive for the past
three weeks, and after her first
week of summer training, she
was offered a contract to be a
trainee for the 2023-2024 sea
son.
As a trainee, she will partici
pate in 30 hours of classes and
rehearsals per week from Au
gust until June. She will also
perform with company danc
ers in productions of “Nut
cracker” and “Swan Lake.”
“By accepting this contract,
I will be furthering my dance
education to a level higher
than I’ve ever experienced
with the goal of preparing my
self for a professional career in
ballet,” Mitcham said.
“I am so proud of Addie,”
Commerce School of Dance
owner/instructor Kim Mc-
Cachren Sellers said. “It is
quite an achievement for
someone coming from a small
community school (Com-

merce School of Dance) to
be offered, right out of high
school, an entry-level posi
tion into a large professional
ballet company such as the
Charlotte Ballet. It took a lot
of drive and initiative on her
part and she is very deserving.
Unlike dance schools in larger
cities that have a syllabus laid
out for that goal, she had to
cobble a path together on her
own. In addition to fulfilling
her twice-weekly Commerce
School of Dance Senior Com
pany commitment, she made
sure she was dancing some
where most days, whether it
was Athens, Gainesville, pri
vately with me in Commerce,
or online virtually with former
principal ballet dancers with
the Miami City Ballet. She
was putting in these intense
hours dancing all the while
maintaining her honor stu
dent status at Madison County
High School. I am excited that
for now she can put all her en
ergy and focus into dance and
am looking forward to seeing
her development as an artist.”
“She is personally just a
delight to work with,” Mc-
Cachren Sellers added, “hi
addition to her dedication and
drive, she has a very sweet
nature and has always been
so eager to learn. It has been a
privilege to have played a part
in her development and a joy
watching her grow up.”
Mitcham’s entry into the
Charlotte Ballet joins her ac
colades from previous years,
which include being accepted
into summer intensives at the
Joffrey Ballet and the Atlanta
Ballet.

PRESS RELEASE ANNOUNCING
A PROPOSED PROPERTY
TAX INCREASE
The Madison County School System today announces its in
tention to increase the 2023 property taxes it will levy this
year by 13.53% over the rollback millage rate.
Each year, the board of tax assessors is required to review the
assessed value for property tax purposes of taxable property
in the county. When the trend of prices on properties that
have recently sold in the county indicate there has been an
increase in fair market value of any specific property, the
board of tax assessors is required by law to re-determine the
value of such property and adjust the assessment. This is
called a reassessment.
When the total digest of taxable property is prepared, Geor
gia law requires that a rollback millage rate be computed that
will produce the same total revenue on the current year’s di
gest that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no
reassessments occurred.
The budget tentatively adopted by the Madison County School
System requires that the millage rate remain the same as last
year at 15.490 mills which is 1.846 mills higher than the roll
back millage. Therefore, before the Madison County Board
of Education can finalize their budget and set a final millage
rate, Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held
to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions
on the increase.
We hope our property taxpayers understand that unless your
property has been reassessed (taxable value increased) during
the year then you WILL NOT see a tax increase. Your taxes
will remain the same.
All concerned citizens are invited to the three public hear
ings on this tax increase to be held at 800 Madison Street,
Danielsville, GA 30633 on August 1, 2023 at 7:30 am and
6:30 pm. Times and places of additional public hearings on
this tax increase are at 800 Madison Street, Danielsville, GA
30633 on August 10, 2023 at 6:30 pm.
