ROTARY CONSTRUCTS RAMP FOR JORDAN SCHMIDT
Photo submitted
The Ramp Crew of the Madison County Rotary Club constructed the 912th handicap ramp,
which was a 12 ft. ramp with handrails, for the Schmidt family on Madison St. in Comer
on Thursday, July 13. “Jordan Schmidt lives with a growth developmental delay and, al
though he is a friendly and healthy young man of 14 years, he functions as if he has only 3
years-experience,” the Rotary Crew said. “Luckily, Jordan is surrounded by a loving fami
ly. Although his mother, Gail, suffers from complications from diabetes which impair her
walking and has a nervous disorder like MS, she provides a warm, stable home for Jordan,
his brother, Dakota, and his sister, Shyanne. Also, they have an older sister, Danielle, living
locally who provides family support.” One of the volunteers on the ramp crew, Walton Hill, is
also Jordan’s school bus driver and over the years has built a close bond with Jordan and saw
the family’s need for a ramp. In addition to Walton Hill, the Rotarians and volunteers work
ing on the ramp for Jordan were Alan Phillips, Mitchel Hill, Bruce Gandy, Don Sullinger,
John Taylor, Ed Brown, Roy Nunnally, Bobby Gower and Peter Lefave.
