Joseph Ephraim Brannen
WINDER — Joseph Ephraim Brannen, Winder,
passed on to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday,
July 20, 2023.
He was bom in Macon
on April 25, 1946, to the
late Morris William Bran
nen and Corinne Simpson
Brannen.
He was retired and
previously worked with
Monumental Life Insur
ance Company. He also
was president of Blazer
Concepts. Joe loved mu
sic, especially singing.
He enjoyed going to the
YMCA and Senior Cen
ter. He was a devoted and loving husband, father,
grandfather and uncle.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jennifer
Brannen; daughter, Karma (Michael) Wright; son,
Jade (Nikki) Brannen; granddaughter, Clarissa Wright,
and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service: Friday, July 28, 2023, at 11 a.m. in
the chapel of Snow’s at Macon Memorial Park Funeral
Home. Burial was in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
Family to receive friends: Friday, July 28, 2023,
from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Donations to donor’s church or favorite charity were
accepted.

Kathy Kelley Calloway
WINDER — Kathy Kelley Calloway, 71, Winder,
passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
She was bom in On
slow, N.C. When she was
in high school, Kathy
played flute in the band
and was a member of the
All-State Band. She grew
up as a Methodist and was
married in the Methodist
Church on June 27, 1980.
She earned an Associ
ate Degree from Victoria
College in Texas. Kathy
was employed by Kmart
and was among the first female assistant managers.
Kathy had been employed as a clerk for the Internal
Revenue Service.
It’s hard to see how she had time to work because
she was interested in so many things. She enjoyed fish
ing, knitting, drawing, doing jigsaw puzzles, playing
Bingo and Yahtzee, and she loved the Legend of Zelda
on her Nintendo entertainment system.
Kathy loved cats and dogs and she had a Pug named
Frank. She was very much into pop culture - she lis
tened to TLC, INXS and MC Hammer.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Barbara
Anderson Kelley and Jack Kelley Sr.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ben Cal
loway. Kathy is also survived by her children, Josiah
Calloway and Barbara (Mark) Davenport; grandchild,
Ian Davenport; brother, Jack Kelley Jr.; sister, Pat
McKay; and several nephews and one niece.

Hazel Hicks Cochran
DACULA — Hazel Hicks Cochran, 89, Dacula, for
merly of Hoschton, passed away on Wednesday, Au
gust 2,2023.
She was bom in Gum
ming to the late Ruby
Williams and Willie
Washington Hicks. She
graduated from Grady
High School in Atlanta.
Mrs. Cochran retired as
a secretary for the Georgia
Department of Education.
She was a lifelong mem
ber of Winder First Bap
tist Church and a member
of the Hoschton Women’s
Civic Club.
She was a natural artist and loved painting, especial
ly oil painting. She was a sweet, kind, thoughtful and
generous lady who loved to laugh and loved hosting
family and friends with her husband, Charles.
Mrs. Cochran was proud of her heritage. She loved
sweets and chocolates were her favorite. She had a
special place in her heart for cats, especially her cat,
Shadow.
She and her husband Charles enjoyed traveling and
went to Hawaii and on cruises to Alaska and Canada.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cochran was preced
ed in death by her loving husband, Charles E. Cochran.
She is survived by family, Janice (C.V.) Dinsmore,
Doris Worthington, Morris (Pat) Major, Horace (Niki)
Cook and Lynn (Wayne) Camp; close friends, Bob
(Patricia) Herring and Jack (Gerri) McEntee; many
nieces and nephews; and a host of close friends.

Cindy Dickson
WINDER — Cindy Dickson, 66, Winder, former
ly from Marietta, passed away peacefully in her sleep
Saturday, July, 29 2023.
Cindy was bom on May, 16 1957, to her parents
Clifford Lamar Dickson Sr. and Peggy Dickson of
Smyrna.
She is survived by her oldest daughter and partner
Valerie Bohannon, Lisa Bohannon, and grandson Ty
ler Simpson; youngest daughter and son-in-law Made
line Godwin, Chan Godwin, and grandson Channing
Godwin; younger brother Cliff Dickson and family.
She is being inumed at Lawson Funeral Home in
Hoschton. No formal services will be held.

Richard “Pop” Thomas England
Richard “Pop” Thomas England, 92, died Tuesday,
July 25, 2023.
A native of Madison
County, Richard was a
son of the late Fred T.
and Annie Inez Spence
England. He was also
preceded in death by his
wife, Joyce England; and
brothers, Don England,
Robert England and Mike
England.
Richard was an elec
trician for more than 50
years. He also had a love
for softball that led to him
coaching many teams over the years. One of his great
est joys was watching and/or coaching his two sons
playing softball.
He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He, along
with his wife, Joyce, served as camp hosts at numerous
parks and campgrounds - Moccasin Creek State Park
in Clarkesville, Hart State Park in Hartwell and Turn
er’s Campground in Cleveland.
As his health declined and he could no longer remain
at home, he spent the last few years of his life at The
Oaks - Athens. His family is forever grateful to them
for the care he was given.
Survivors include two sons, Steve (Kellie) England,
Hull, and Rodney (Debbie) England, Athens; grand
children, Anthony (Mandy) England, Danielsville,
Andy England, Hull, Whitney (Michael) England
Sperlik, Statham, Jacob England, Pell City, Ala., Gar
land Louise England, Pell City, Ala., Riley (Christina)
Snyder, Flowery Branch, and Brody (Meshele) Snyder,
Hoschton; great-grandchildren, Samantha England,
Danielsville, Addison Sperlik, Statham, Grant Sperlik,
Statham, and Miah Snyder, Hoschton; siblings, Doro
thy Holcomb, Milledgeville, and Rucker (Edna) En
gland, Hull; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service: Saturday, July 29,2023, in the chap
el of Lord and Stephens, East, with the Rev. Morris
Sapp officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant
Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be
Danny Hopkins, Lance Malaier, Tony Royston, Ron
Williamson and grandsons — Anthony England and
Michael Sperlik. Honorary pallbearer will be Andy
England.
Family to receive friends: Saturday, July 29, 2023,
from 12 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sara Mabry Harris
JEFFERSON — Sara Mabry Harris passed away
peacefully on Monday, July 31, 2023 in Jefferson. She
leaves behind a rich legacy of faith in God, family,
friends and music.
Sara was bom on November 20, 1939, to Reverend
Paul John Mabry and Amanda Poole Mabry in Green
ville County, South Carolina. She was a beloved sister
to Paul John Mabry Jr. and Neil Graydon Mabry.
After graduation from Palmetto High School in Wil-
liamston, S.C., she studied music at Anderson College
and graduated from Furman University with a degree
in music.
She married Timothy Boiter Harris on June 24,
1962, in Williamston, S.C. As she raised her family,
Sara taught piano professionally to hundreds of stu
dents over a 40-year career. A number of her students
earned music scholarships and chose music as a pro
fession.
Sara served as pianist
and organist for numerous
churches that her family
attended. Most notably,
at First Baptist Church
of Griffin, from 1978 to
1990. In church services,
she had a remarkable abil
ity to leverage the power
of the Holy Spirit through
the instruments that she
played. To say that her tal
ents in music and teaching
blessed many lives would
be an understatement.
Sara is preceded in death by her parents; and older
brother, Paul John Jr.
She is survived by her younger brother, Neil and
his wife, Alice Bartlett Mabry. She is also survived by
her husband of 61 years, Timothy, and their two chil
dren, Timothy Boiter Harris Jr. and his wife, Christina
Young Harris, and Amanda Harris Feltman and her
husband, Terry Lee Feltman. Also surviving are five
grandchildren, Timothy Boiter Harris III and his wife,
Tabitha Keeton Harris, Ansley Feltman Blouin and
her husband, Cohn Andrew Blouin, Lauren Elizabeth
Feltman, Savannah Elizabeth Harris and Bradford
Benjamin Harris.
She was the consummate matriarch. Her family and
friends will miss her sorely, but we all rejoice in the
fact that Sara’s was a life well-lived. Jesus Christ is her
savior. She lived her mortal life and will live eternal
life accordingly.
Visitation and celebration of life: Saturday, Septem
ber 2, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Jefferson. Vis
itation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. The celebration of life
will immediately follow.

He was the son of the
late E.G. and Nettie Sue

He worked for Griffeth

Company as a salesman
and manager and also
worked in Watson Mill

Survivors include wife, Susan Helton; step-children,
Phyllis Ervin and Christopher Compton; sisters and
brothers, Mildred Mealor, Alice Chambers, Jerry (Jen
ny) Helton and Jack (Janice) Helton; grandchildren,
Amanda (Brett) Gnomes, Josh Fields and Cole Comp
ton; and numerous great-grandchildren.

able Discharge. He served
in both Vietnam and Ger
many. He was a member
oftheAMVETS in Wind
er Post 12. Don worked
at Rhodia Chemical Plant
in Winder for many years
before settling in South
Port, Fla.
Donald Hyden is pre
ceded by his father, Louis
Damon Hyden; mother, Dora Ethel Rose; his siblings;
and his son, Eric Donovan Hyden.
Donald Hyden is survived by his three step-daugh
ters, Beth Osborne, Jayne Young and Paula Brayton;
10 grandchildren, Nicole, Andrew, Mason, Bo, Jacob,
Paul, Seth, Jared, Sean and Kelly; and six great-grand
graduated from Madison
