August 12, 2023, at Carter Funeral Home in Winder.

vice at Barrow Memorial Gardens.

Ruth Marian Greicius Hyden
Ruth Marian Greicius Hyden, 75, passed away peace
fully Saturday, July 29, 2023.
Ruth Hyden is preced
ed by her father, Anthony
Greicius; mother, Stella
Macikas; two of her sib
lings; and her husband,
Donald Hyden, by three
short days.
Ruth began her career
life as a beautician, but lat
er became her dream job
of an LPN where she grad
uated from Lanier Techni
cal School in Oakwood.
She worked tirelessly with
the elderly in nursing homes.
Ruth is survived by her brother, Brian Malone; her
three daughters, Beth Osborne, Jayne Young and Pau
la Brayton; 10 grandchildren, Nicole, Andrew, Mason,
Bo, Jacob, Paul, Seth, Jared, Sean and Kelly; and six
great-grandchildren.

John Nicholas Krutilla
HOSCHTON — John Nicholas Krutilla, 78,
Hoschton, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, after
a 14-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
John was bom in Steu
benville, Ohio, and raised
in Weirton, West Va. John
was the captain of the golf
team while at Weirton
High School, and upon
his graduation in 1962, he
enrolled at West Virgin
ia University. In 1967, he
graduated with a Bache
lor’s degree in mechanical
engineering.
John then began his ca
reer at Goodyear Tire and
Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio. He remained in Ak
ron for the next 12 years before relocating to Gadsden,
Ala. John continued working for Goodyear for another
20 years. In 1999, he retired as the quality assurance
engineer after 32 years of service to the company.
Mr. Krutilla will be remembered for his love of golf,
fishing and woodworking. He had a creative mind and
could fix anything. He was a family man who especial
ly loved spending time with his grandchildren.
John Nicholas Krutilla is survived by his wife of 57
years, Donna McDonnell Krutilla; daughters, Johnna
(Chuck) Luhrs, and Frances (Russell) Smith; grandchil
dren, Nicholas, John, Mallory, Matthew, Blake, Carson
and Ally; and sisters-in-law, Sherri Krutilla and Ivaleen
McDonnell Forren.
John is preceded in passing by his parents, Nicholas
and Helen Talamine Krutilla; son, John Jeffrey Krutilla;
brother, Kenneth Krutilla; aunt, Rose Talamine Gobi;
and mother-in-law, Mildred McDonnell.
Graveside service: Saturday, August 12, 2023, at
12 p.m. at the Williams Southside Memorial Park, 1009
SR-77 N, Gadsden, Ala., where John will be laid to rest
next to his son.

to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Re
search and encourages you to take your children and
grandchildren fishing, golfing or to a ballgame. Spend
time with them and make lasting memories.

Wendell Andrew Martin
Wendell Andrew Martin, 75, passed away on Satur
day, July 29, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Bom February 6, 1948,
in Commerce to the late
Julia and Mendell Mar
tin, Wendell was preced
ed in death by sister, Joan
White; and brother, Max
Martin.
Wendell is survived by
sister, Gail Emmett; his
wife, Cathy; two daugh
ters and their families,
Aimee and Ernie Molina,
their children Lily, Jewel
and Wilson, and Erin and
Jon Wilcox, their children Lucie and Lylah.
Wendell and Cathy (Clark) were married on August
18, 1968. Wendell served in the Navy from 1968 to
1972. Wendell earned his Bachelor’s degree in civil
engineering from Southern Tech and worked his entire
career in commercial construction on such notable proj
ects as Two First Union Center in Charlotte, Centennial
Olympic Park in Atlanta and the Cloister Hotel on Sea
Island.
Wendell enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting,
fishing and lovingly tending his lawn and plants. Wen
dell and Cathy loved to travel, including trips across the
U.S., Hawaii and Europe, highlighted by a two-month
cross country road trip exploring U.S. National Parks
in 2015.
A man of few words, Wendell showed love through
acts of service, however, as Papa he found his greatest
joy in his five grandchildren, with whom he was easily
affectionate.
Wendell read his Bible faithfully and loved Jesus with
all his heart.
Funeral service: Friday, August 18, 2023, at 2 p.m. at
the red brick church at Lawson Funeral Home, the same
church where he and Cathy were married 55 years prior.
An off-site reception will follow the service.
Family to receive friends: Friday, August 18, 2023,
from 1 to 2 p.m.

Curtis Mathis
Curtis Mathis, 90, passed away on Tuesday, July 25,
2023.
Curtis was the son of the late Gleson and Emmaline
Beck Mathis. Curtis was retired from the City of Wind
er as a mechanic.
Survivors include his wife, Essie Mae Collett Mathis;
children, Rickie Mathis, Carol (Mike) Kitchens, Vick
ie Davis and Penny Mathis (Jerry McLocklin); broth
ers, J.C. Mathis and Sambo (Janice) Mathis; sisters,
Florence Wallace and Kathleen (Jerry) Maynard; four
grandchildren, Justin Ashley, Colby Cooper, Kevin and
Nikki Davis; and five great-grandchildren, Chloe Ash
ley, Samuel, Nataleigh and David Cooper and Kaden
Davis.
Funeral service: Thursday July 27, 2023, at 2 p.m. in
the Smith Memory Chapel. Burial will follow at Rose
Hill Cemetery.
Family to receive friends: Wednesday, July 26, 2023,
from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Okal Lee Mauldin
COMMERCE — Okal Lee Mauldin, 92, died peace
fully at her home on Monday, July 31, 2023 in Com
merce.
She was born on Janu
ary 25, 1931, in Danville,
Va. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Roy
Carl Mauldin. She was
the youngest daughter of
the late Harry Lee Mann
Sr. and the late Maddie
Mae Etheridge Mann. Her
youngest daughter, Terri,
was with her when she
passed and took care of
her for over 20 years in her
home in Commerce.
Before retiring, she worked for Southern Bell Tele
phone Co. and was a member of the Telephone Pio
neers. She took care of children after retirement, she
loved children.
Okal Lee was an amazing cook. Her made from
scratch German Chocolate Cake used to bring top dol
lar at bake sales. She was also a great seamstress, just
like her sisters were.
She loved going to see movies, her grandchildren, her
great-grandchildren and her granddog, Molly. All of her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her “Me-
Maw”. She loved to laugh and would light up a room
with her laughter. She was an absolute joy to be around.
Everyone called her “sweet Miss Lee”.
She is survived by her two daughters, Starr (Jimmy)
Camp, Marietta, and Terri (Melvin) Hanley, Com
merce; two grandsons, Adam (Devin) Hanley and
Austin (Bretta) Hanley, Bogart; several great-grand
sons, Kaden Burroughs, Trevor Burroughs, Beckett
Burroughs, Bryson Hanley and Easton Hanley; one
great-granddaughter, Livi Hanley; and several nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two older sisters,
Lois (Edgar) Macon, Cataula, and Mae (Linnie) Woods,
Phenix City, Ala.; and one brother, Harry Lee (Pamela)
Mann Jr., Washington, N.C.
Funeral service: Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 2 p.m.
at The Anchor Church, 403 Drake Woods Road, Dan-
ielsville, Ga. 30633.

Donald J. Mulvane
HOSCHTON — Donald J. Mulvane, 83, Hoschton,
passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023.
Don was bom in Co
shocton, Ohio, on Janu
ary 10, 1940, and raised
in New Comerstown,
Ohio. After graduating
from New Comerstown
High School, he earned
an associate degree. Af
ter receiving his diploma,
he accepted a position in
San Diego, California,
before being drafted into
the United States Army.
After being honorably dis
charged from the Army, Don accepted a position in At
lanta, until his retirement after 31 years. After his retire
ment, Don and his wife, Wendy, traveled extensively.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wendy (Slygh)
Mulvane; daughter and son-in-law, Marci and Monty
Farrell; granddaughter, Mackenzie Farrell; sister, Nan
cy Gadd; sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Bud
Best; a niece; and nephews.
As per Don’s wishes, there will be no memorial ser
vices. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 8,2023,
at Memorial Park South Cemetery in Flowery Branch.

Addie Jane Sims
JEFFERSON — Addie Jane Sims, 82, Jefferson,
passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
Miss Sims was bom in
Jefferson, a daughter to
the late Robert and Ad
die McCluster Sims. Miss
Sims was a homemaker
and a member of the St.
Paul Baptist Church in
Jefferson.
In addition to her par
ents, Miss Sims was pre
ceded in death by her
brothers and sisters, Sarah
Ann Gunn, Leona Tate,
Wilma Randolph, Otis
Sims, Nathaniel Sims, Maybeth Sims and Mattie Wat
son.
Survivors include her daughters, Lisa Josey and her
husband, Charlie, Jefferson, and Beth Mitchell and
her husband, Mike, Athens; grandchildren, Jaaliyah
Mitchell, Athens, Ebony Mitchell, Colorado, and Jada
Mitchell, Athens; great-grandchildren, Armani, Amir,
Kennede and Alayah; and a host of nieces, nephews
and cousins also survive.
Funeral service: Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 2 p.m.
in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rever
end Mitchel Appleby officiating. The burial will follow
in the Paradise Cemetery in Jefferson.
