What They are Doing Jottings From Our Exchanges. Newton. Georgia Enterprise. The money spent for drinks with which to rub young men in Newton county would keep the public roads in good order and furnish a school fund sufficient to educate ev^ ery boy and girl in the county? Do brave men need words to move them to action? One day last week Messrs. Jack Meadors, if. M. Nix and Samel Har¬ well went wild turkey hunting. The party secured three gobblers and two hens. Mr. Meadors led the score by killino four, while Mr. Harwell killed one. Col. Nix, strange to say, failed to bag anything on this hunt, but he proposes to come out ahead next time. Mad dogs have become so numerous and such a terror that parents fear to send their children away from home, consequently, the schools generally are in a languishing condition. Several rabid dogs were killed on Mr. C. W. Turner’s place recently; a cow belong¬ ing to Mrs. Jarman, was bitten by a mad dog several weeks ago, aud on Sunday morning last presented alarm¬ ing symptoms of hydrophebia. Mrs. Jarman herself, narrowly escaped the dog as he passed. Is nothing to be done to prevent the spread of this ter¬ ror? Is it to run on and infest the whole country ? Cobb Marietta Journal. An old settler says in 1834, Marietta had her first, licensed barroom, aud Dow fifty years thereafter she is with¬ out one. Mr. Dobbins, a tenant on Mr. J. IT. Boston’s farm, (last year made eight bales of cotton on niue acres of land. This year he expectj to make a bale to the acre. We understand there are some aspi¬ ring 'candidases for the legislature from this eouuty who cannot spell a Ste-E&B 'lords.in a sentence correctly.J Mr. Alien Fain fell at the skating rink last week and dislocated his knee. There is some talk of a chartered Bank being established at Marietta. Saturday morning dawned upon a prohibition town—the bar rooms, in obedience to the will of the edict of the people, closed out the evening previous and now the old toper gets his “little brown juj;” from outside of Cobb. Butts. Jackson Neus. Jim Ingram is the best farmer in this vicinity, he is running two plows this year, and he is going to make twenty bales of cotton, and we believe lie will make it too. Wo learn that the premises of Mr. Ward, who lives south of Jachsou, in this county, was considerably damag¬ ed by the storm on Monday night, His stables and other out houses were blown down, killing a fine horse aud injuring other stock. We learn that Supervisor Blue bad a very narrow escape one day last week. He was on his regular trip over the road in a crank car, aud when near Locust Grove, an extra train col¬ lided with his car, demolishing it. Mr. Blue and his servant only had time to escape from the crank, before the extra train was upon them. ONE HUNDRED CENTS. Mess. JZim tier man & Johns, drug girds of Westminster, S. C. in their last order, purchased only the dollar size of Norman's Neutralizing .Cordial. Those win try the 25 cetitsjsize always buy the large size next time, thus its use advertises its merits. - “My brudders,” said a waggish col. man to a crowd; “in all affliction, in all your troubles, dar is one place you can always find sympathy.” “Whar? Whnt manfacturing will do in the way of building up a city is exempli¬ fied in the case of Chattanooga. In 1860 that city had only n population of 6,000; now it has 24,000 people. It is stated that the manufacturing capital has increased fifty per cent, in three years, much of it coming from the North.
