CitJUfomt B£im*Sk. town and county news. Did you get a washing machine? Dancing, is going out of fashion. Thursday was Buithingtou’s washr day. _ Tbo electoral commission has been rightly termed the “steal trap." Bob' Ransone has returned with a pocket-full of Mardi Gras seed. The spelling bees have ceased to buzz in this community. Formers and gardeners don’t like the tigh prioe of seed potatoes. Mr. E. L. Richards, of Atlanta, Ga., paid his relatives and friends a pleas* ant visit last Sunday. A man is 1950 times as large as the honey bee, yet it is useless to try to argue the matter with the bee. The tide of public opinion in this vicinity will in a little while, swittly turn Irom the Presidential question to “joaner” and garden seeds. A tramp was heard to remark that thej-e arc many tics that bind him to the life he leads lie usually taxes the railroad. The Sociable at Col R M. Young’s residence last Friday night week was largely attended, and afforded ment to all present. “Gosh-te-whoop !" is what a youth who is ahead of the moral generation exclaimed when he put the lighted end of a cigar in his mouth. We learn from a citizen of Dalton, that n Mr Miller, of Whitfield county, while returning to his home from Dal - ton, on last Tuesday, was thrown from his wagon and instantly killed, his horses having taken fright and run away. h ive been requested to urge j our citizens who hive subscribed household articles to our new pastor to bring them forward at once. This mat ter has been neglected for the past few v? Ivs, and we hope it will be attended .to without further delay. Spring is coming, and we shall re gret to see the usual number of persons who take their places astride goods boxes and do nothing but whittle away the time. There is plenty of work fir all hands to do, and laziness is a curse to any community. If all persons would make themselves useful at all times ve would have a better country to live in. Foster k Ilurlan are daily receiving new goods. Their stock, already the largest in Calhoun, when it receives the spring additions will contain every thing that a purchaser can ask for in variety, iu the list of general merchan dise. 'J hey are doing a fine business. They offer their immense stock at the very lowest figures, and the public are iuvited to call. The last number of the Mari tta Journal comes to us an iui provement on its previous issues, especially in its lo cal department, which is full and com plete, containing notes of events not only in its own town, but from different points in its immediate section. The people of its section owe it to them selves to sustain the Journal, and there is no excuse for not doing so. Died, at the residence of his brother, Mr. I. N. Thomas, in this place, on Friday morning the 9th inst., Mr. John A. Thomas, aged about twenty-five years, Consumption marked him for its victim, and cut him down in the morning of manhood. Possessed of many noble and generous qualities both of head and heart, he won a place in the confidence and esteem of all with whom he came in contact. He was buried at Montevallo on Saturday Columbiana (Alt.) Sentinel Married, at Plainville, Ga., at the residence of the bride’s adopted father, 11. C. Barney, by Rev. Rufus Hickey, Mr. P. 1). May their pathway through life run smoothly and all their troubles be little ones - A Friend. The advei of Curtis k Smith, manufacturers of carriages, buggies, Ac., Atlanta, Ga., will be found in this issue of the Times, to which we take pleasure in calling the attention of our readers. While in Atlanta this week wc called in at their shop, and were shorn a carriage built for Mr W. D. Grant, of that city, and for superior finish it has never been equalled by any manufacturer iu Georgia. The wood work, iron-work, trimming, painting and finishing all correspond in excellence, and each reflect much credit upon the builders. The new “C” spring is used, and also the improved book step, some thing new in the art of carriage mak.. ing. Mr. Curtis is a son of Mr. J. M Curtis, of this county, and deserves much credit for his energy and excel lent workmanship. Mr. Smith, his gentlemanly partner, is a sr leDdid workman, and the firm pride themselves on turning out neat work at the lowest possible prices. Geo. W.
