“Our steamer landed on a beach which
was the port of Antioch, where the
disciples were first called Christians.—
i'here was no town at the water’s edge,
no people, no wharf. The passengers
and the merchandise were put ashore
in lighters, which -an up into the

transfer the goods into the interior.
Among the articles landed were boxes
marked ‘Dr. J. C. Ayei & Cos., Lowell,

contained medicines and whence they
came. These with other goods yere

I took up- my pen full a half Hbur
ago to tell you what a glorious time the
Calhou i Literary Club had at the Big
Spring last Wednesday, but it can’t be
done, it is beyond description Ten
o’clock found the party at the soring,
(except those who lost' the way and did
not get in for art hour), and then the
shouting, the boat sailing, the laughing,
the talking, the moss gathering, the
fishing, (up among the big rocks) the
eating, the pushing of buggies full of
young ladies into the spring by young
men. the slipping in of young men’s
feet in the operation, and everything
else that a similar party ever did was done
that day. And the pleasant drive home
by way of Sonora added much to the
pleasure of the occasion. But what is
the use to say more ! we had a beauti
ful day, a nice 1 party and a good dinner,
who could ask anything else? May
just such a day soon recur.

Among the meritorious publications
devoted to the subject of Fashion, we
would invite the attention of our lady
readers to oue, which .we think possess
es in a large degree the essentials of a
perfect work—viz., common sense and
taste. We refer to Ebrichs’ Fashion
Quarterly, the spring numbei of which
has jus' reached us.
It will be found instru live, useful,
beautiful, valuable. The very low sub
scription prjee at which it is issued
will surprise our lady readers when they
examine its contents. The leading idea
of the work, the presentation of a reffi
erence book and illustrated catalogue
of the contents of their great establish
ment, is handsomely conveyed; and the
fund of information, instruction and
thought thereto added will make it wel
cmie in all homes where taste and re
finement dwell. The beauty of its il
lustrations, the topics so ably presented
by its able lady contrif utors, its prac
tical common- suggestions, above
all, the value of its price list, make it
the best investment we have seen in its
line. No household should be without
it.
To Fortune's favored ones it offers
manifold attractions iu its choice and
rare styles pertaining to the wardrobe
aud personal adornment. To those in
moderate circumstances opportunity is
given for a display of the same refine®
merit of taste, though it may be in hum
bler übjects. To all who seek to learn,
to cultivate the beautiful, atU to adorn

This unrivaled preparation has per

cures that are recorded in the annals of

entirely recovered their health.

most thorough and
tic medicine that can be employed: cleans
ing the stomach and bowels, and even the
blood. In small doses of one pill a day,
they stimulate the digestive organs and
promote vigorous health.
Ayer’s Pills have been known for
more than a quarter of a century, and have
obtained a worid-wide reputation for their
virtues. They correct diseased action in
the several assimilative organs of the
body, and are so composed that obstruc
tions within their range can rarelv with
stand or evade them. Not only do they
cure the every-day complaints of every
body, but also formidable and dangerous
diseases that have baffled the best of
human skill. While they produce power
ful effects, they are, at the same time, the
safest and best physic for children. By
their aperient action they gripe much less
than the common purgatives, and never
give pain when the bowels are not inflamed.
They reach the vital fountains of the blood,
and strengthen the system by freeing it
from the elements of weakness.
Adapted to all ages and conditions in
all climates, containing neither calomel
nor any deleterious drug, these Pills may
be taken with safety by anybody. Their
sugar-coating preserves them ever fresh,
and makes them pleasant to take; while
being purely vegetable, no harm can arise
from their use in any quantity.
