The session this week has been a dull one, both us regards the arnouut of bus intes done and the number of attend* ants. The weather has been fine for wheat sowing, and ouly those farmers who were compelled to, left their work. The two Sunday Schools of this nlar<> are arranging for Chr stuias trees.-- TheMcthodist will have theirs on Uinist nns eve night, and the Union School on Christmas n gl t, and each promises to ec ipse in magnificence those of former years. The concert given last Friday night by some of the ladies and gentlemen of this place, was an entertainment refut ing, much upon its projectors. The programme was varied comprising mu, sic, Ethiopian burlesque, &c, served foi the audience In every conceivable shape. Ihe Marseilles Hymn was sun" with wonderful power, and was highly appreciated. The negro songs were good and the plays were original and presented to perfection. Especial'y worthy of mention among these was “Gwine After Starch,” Sam Freeman’s “Gwine Dowd South.” and Dr Thorn ton Fling Myself Away.” The pro ceeds netted twelve dollars or more which was turned over to the Union Sunday School. Among the very few newspapers in the North which have exhibited a dis position to give the Southern side *of the question a hearing siuce the%var is the widely kimvvn Detroit Free Press, and having for some time noticed its impartial course we cheerfully recoup mend it as worthy of a place in every Southern family circle. The Free Press Will during the coming year contain numerous articles from the pe.ris of dis tinguished writers at the Soiitn, which will be the means of bringing those seeding new homes Southward, and pos sibly right into our midst,, for no sec lion South offers superior advantages to i’h&rokee Georgia, as regards healthful' ness, good lauds, mineral advantages, Ac. Articles setting forth the advan“ t tges of special localities will be cheer fully inserted. In the number for De cember 15th appears an account of the daring exploits, i ursuit, capture and ex eeu'iou of a portion of the famous An drews squad, who attempted to burn the bridges on the W. A A. Railroad in 18G3 The Recount is written by Hen ry VV r . Grady, of Atlanta, and is very interesting. The writings alone of “M Quad,” which has given the lead to the Free Press as a humorous paper, are sufficient to keep up its popularity.— The price of the Free Press is $2.00 a year, but through an arrangement with the publishers we are enabled to furn ish it and the Oalsoun Times togeth er lor $2 75, making the Free Press cost only 75 cents above the regular price of our paper.
