The facts, as well as could be asccr tained by a thorough investigation were about these : On Sunday evening the 23d ult., the husband, David Wise nant, .went 6o his brother’s, a short dis tance from his residence and didn’t re turn until after dark. At a very early hour Mrs. Wisenant sent, her childreiLto bed. and very soon threw a shovel full of fire coals on the bed. '1 his of course alarm the children that is her little son, eight years old and a little girl G or 7 ; and frightened as they were, bounded out of bed when their mother struck each of them a fearful blow on the head with the shovel The little girl as soon as she had suffi oftentky recovered, attempted to escape by'running out of the door and leaving the house while the boy seized the baby from the bed and ran with it, and the other two, at his request, f. flowed him. The mother in the meantime, with fran tic efForts, and, as it were, superhuman desperation followed the girl ; and, in the chase, losing the shovel, she gather" ed a heavy stick, and as the girl—her own darling child, whom she declared she loved better than all her little child ren —was endeavoring to cross a mudho) e was killed by her mother with said bludg eon. While the mother was shedding the innocent blood of her beloved and uner ring child, the fire-fiend was fast con suming all, of earth’s product which they could call their own. The house and out house, with all their contents, were burned but as luck wou’d have it, they had a lot of corn that was out of reach of the fire. To the citizens who arrived on the ground while the last of their earthly all was perishing, she remarked that she was only obeying the command of the Lord. She told the same story to her counsel; in fact she told every one that the -‘Good Man” had visited her and told her to kill all her children and go toheaveuwith them, and told nn e of her attorneys that she had killed al* herchildren, aud burnt them in the house and begged that she might be killed in the quickest way and sent to heaven to meet her children. It was shown from the evidence that the unfortunate lady h-d for some sev er, or eight years been subject to par' oxyr-ms. There was nothing in th whole case or in connection with the whole affair going to show that there was anything at all wrong as to the wo man’s character, and strange to say that her grPlVstncken husband most earnest ly and fervently implored her attorneys to manage her case so as to have her re leased and restored to him, and allow him to carry her to sumo place that he might find a home ; she all the time averting that she would kill the bah nee of her children and take them to heav en with her. She is now in jail, and will-eon he sent to the Asylum for Lun atics at Milledgeville. Dom l* e tiro t S.tifc Lake. At the theatre on Sunday evening M msger Hanis. who thought to do the h tudsuino thing by Dom Pedro, station yd a subordinate at the theatre door to give him (Harris) warning when the Emperor arrived. Mo sooner had his Majesty entered than Manager Harris, with hat off bowing and scraping, pro ceeded to usher Dom to his box. But the Emperor would not stand much of that sort of thing, and said in a very good-natured, pleasant manner, ‘-That will do ; young man, that will do; put your hat on now, and show me to my box." “I beg your r>a don,” said Mr. Har ris ;“I intended no offence; lam not much accustomed to being in the com pany of Emperors.” And he then led the way to the box. When his Majesty was riding by the Propoet s harem he asked the coachman what place it was. and was told that Brigham Young lived there with all his wives. But he did not stop to visit King Brigham. He read aloud the sign on 'n the office of the Woman's Exponent , as he passed and asked what kind of a thing it was. The coachman told him that it was a kind of a religious paper published b'- r a a class of Mormon Women crlled female roosters. The Emperor evjuently didn’t understand the meaning of the term ‘•female rooster," and looked searching !y at the coachman but pressed the in* quiry no further. - —-** t* — dhe CiiAttMS of Western Life. The table shows that our sales exceed those of any other company for the period named, by the number of 118,852 machines, nearly Three Times Those of any other Com pany. It may be further stated that the sales of 1873, as compared with the sale, of 1F72, show a relatively large incrensi to \ Mid the sales of other makers. Fur instance, in 1872 wc sold 15,000 more nitchincs than any other company ; whereas, in 1-473, thg sales were 113,254 Machines in Excess of Our Highest Competitor. The following is a correct report of the sales of sewing machines made by die lead ing companies during the past four years. A careful examination of the figures will show that the “SINGER” have largely in creased each year, while on the contrary, a, corresponding decrease is shown in the sales reported by all other companies.
