CALHOUN TIMES LOCAL AKWS. The nimble flea now maketh one swear. The present session of Calhoun Academy closes it. about two weeks. The lumber business seems lively.— Improvements are still looking up. The candidate is now looking around for those friends who are to bring him out. Mu. W. 11. Bonner has left in our sanctum a specimen of yellow clover measuring three feet or over in height. There is a prospect that the fruit crop this year will be entirely destroyed. It generally is—by those who like it. A VELtY neat little business house has been erected en the John P. King lot on Court House street, in the j lace (J the ungainly looking structure that re cently stood there. The anticipations of the übiquitous candidate appear in indistinct outlines on the local political sky. The ‘‘long est pole,” you know. Mr. Tom Foster anticipates erect' ing a large, handsome and durable brick structure this season on the site where Foster k Harlan are now doing busi ness. The Mary Carter bad a little trou ble up the river last week, but was only delayed a short while. rihe has been shipping corn to this point, from whence some of it goes to Atlanta. Picnic at Craneater Springs next Saturday. A big crowd and a good time expected. Gen. Colquitt and per haps other distinguished gentlemen will be there. M e have made arrangements to sup- Ily ( nr readers with a letter from the t enter nial every week. The second letter will be found in this issue. They vill be interesting to all. Upon inquiry we learn that there is at prerent less fear among farmers of injury to wheat from the rust than when it first made its appearance It seems to be 1 confined to the blade and in most places the holds seem in good condition. A fair cn p is even now Poked for. As the season for leui nudes and iced drinks approaches, a young man of our sflculintance insists that it is her pla; i t> tre it, to such delic t cses this year. Bit tv >uld he be willing to re ceive such cnl treatment from ‘he fair sex ? tii it is the question. Two small cani rs got up a sensation in the posioffict Monday morning while an eager crowd were waiting fur the mail. They tried the flavor of each other’s hides, and tucked their tails and vamoosed after being coaxed by a little sole leather. The members of ihe Baptist Church are making preparation to seal their building, having already purchased the material. Mr. Mark Moore is to do the work, an 1 if the design, which includes some elegant arch-work is carried out it will greatly add to the looks of the ed ifice. To the Patrons, Farmers, and I'eopne Generally.—Whereas on the first day of June next A. B. Smedlty "f Cresco, lowa, Lecturer of National Grange, will deliver an agricultural address at Calhoun, in Gordon county; and T. J. Smith Master Georgia State Grange is expected to be pr sent; Re solved by the delegates from the several Granges of Gordon county; That the letter of T. and . When you see a man that shuffles loosely along, with his knees knocking together and his toes pointing in— whose eyes roll furtively and whose hand is ever suddenly jerking itself above his as it warding off a blow you can rely up on it that that man is haunted by a mother-in law—but when you see a par ty who lifts his feet bign, and holds his nose in the air, and has one eye shut in a knowing manner and whose mouth is distended with a self complacent grin and who seems to feel good all Otar ; you can bet your last cent he has just bougth anew “Domestic” sewing ma chine for his wife.
