CALHOUN TIMES IX)CAI, NEWS. A question—“ Who’ll you vote for V* Announcements, 85. Trot out an other hoes. It is bolioved new corn will open at a low figure. Tiif protracted meeting has closed at tho Baptist church. TnE early risers nowadays are the thermometer and the house-fly. Tiie fondness exhibited by postago stamps lot one another in the vest pock et this weather is remarkable. We learn that tho camp meeting Liberty Church progresses with the live licst interest. On Sunday the crowd was immense, and preaching was done in the open air. A FARMER was astonished when he sold his spring chickens in town tho other day because the purchase r asked him why he didn’t bring tho old lieu along to take care of them. A great deal of dissatisfaction has been espresso and towards a certain near sighted official of this county wiio stuck up a notice bottom side up, as it was rather inconvenient for a man to have to stand ou his head every timo the pa p cr was" read. It is said the grc.it Whitafield preach, ed ten sermons a week for ten consecu tivo week?. It may be said with less consequence perhaps, that a distinguish ed colored brother in the colored camp meeting now progressing at this place preached seven sermons in ore day. Suicide. —Though we are not n pos session of defluitc particulars, we learn that a daughter of Mr. Win. Fox,living in the lower portion of this county, on Tuesday, the Bth ino stant, committed suicide by jumping ins to a woll. The young lady had been in a deranged state of mind for some time and had once before made the attempt to thus enu her earthly existence, which induced her father to have placed over the well what he thought to boa secure curbing. When the yuung lady again made the attempt, it is said she carried ■out her design by putting her hands under tho curbing, raising it up, and jumping under. We regret to chronicle this week the -death from typhoid feVcr of L. I). Wy att, Jr., which occurred in this place on the 10th instant. By his ever kind and obliging disposition lie endeared all to him in the warmest tics of friend ship, and many hearts havo been made sad by the event of his death. lie was just twenty-one years of ago, and just entering the period of manhood, he gavo promise of usefulness in after life, but in accordance with tho will of the Supreme Ruler his career has ended it is Imped in a glorious triumph over life’s temptations which beset man’s pathway •here and a final rest in peace in thcglo ry realms above. Change of Publication Day. After some rcfiection and believing the same would be more convenient in many ways, both for us and our suberib ers, we have concluded to issue the Times on Saturday instead of Wednes- heretofore, wit the commencement of our new volumo which is tho next is sue. This change will enable us to get labor news, and get our paper to ou r subscribers with more promptness. — More of our home tubscribers are in town on Saturday than any other day of the week, and many like to read the paper on Saturday night after the toils of the week arc over. We believe the change "ill prove satisfactory to all concerned. With few exceptions, the paper will reach our county subscribers on the day it is published. liasc Call. A. match gamo of base ball was placed on the grounds here on Monday even* ing last between the Oiawford Club of Dalton, and the Chcrokecs.of this place. -I he game commenced at three o clock and w; s witnessed by agood number of ir tereated spectators. The rain which came down in small showers at intervals of game marred the pleasure of the match and made it necessary to pall the gfluie at the end of the eighth inning. The re sult was a victory for the Crawfords by a .score of 49 to 32. The Cherokces having comparatively no practice and mostly inexperienced players they did much better than was generally expected. W e can com-' plinient the young men of the Crawford ciub iijt alone for good playing but for being as clever a set of young fellows ns we have recently met with. 9he herokees say they will ti y the game over when they got a little more prac tice. The inhabitants of malarial districts who are constantly breathing an impure and poisoned atmosphere are subject to lingering and malignant and fatal diseases, such as Ague, Typhoid Fovet and Yellow Fever and Asiatic Cholera. In many sections of the western com try almost every one is subject to chills and fever, an ailment most difficult to cure. The unhealthy effects of living in such miasmatic sections arc destroyed by the free use of Dr. Radcliff’s Seven Seals or Golden Wonder. THE NEW FAMILY s EI^PSH SIGNER Sewing machine. WITH ATTACHMENTS For. All Kinds of Worl v is fast winning favor in the household, a s shown by the rapidly increasing sales. This New Family Machine is capa ble of a range and variety of work such a was onco thought impossible to perform by machinery. We claim and can show that it is the cheapest, most beautiful, delicately arranged, nicciy adjusted, easily operated, and smoothly running of all the family sewing machines. It is remarkable, not only for the range and variety of its sew* ing, but also for the variety and different kinds of texture whicn it will sew with equsd facility and perfection, using silk twist, linen, or cotton thread, tine or coarse, making the inter-elastic lock stitch, alike on both sides of the fabric sewn. Thus, beaver cloth, or leather, may be sewn with great strength and uniformity of stitch , and,i n a* moment, this willing and never wearying instrument may be adjusted for fine work on gauze or gossamer tissue, or moluckingi of tarlatan, or ruffling, or al most any other work which delicate fingers have been known to perform. Ours having long been the popular and practical machines for manuficturing pur poses, some dealers, using “ the tricks of trade,” take advantage of this in trying to persuade purchasers that our Family Ma chine is not. equal, for family sewing to our Manufacturing Machines for manufacturing purposes. But purchasers—and they are apt to examine carefully before choosing— have not been merely persuaded, but con vinced that our new family machine embod ies new and essential principles—simplicity of construction; ease of operation; uni formity of precise action at any speed; ca pacity forrmge and variety of work, fine or coarse —lea ving all rivals behind it. Sewing Machine Sales 0f1874. The table of sewing machine sales for 1874 show that our sales for that year amounted to 211,097 machines, being a large increase over the sales of the previ ous year. The table shows that our sales exceed those of any other company for tlie period named, by the number of 148,852 machines, nearly Three Times Those of any other Com pany. It may be further stated that the sales of 1873, as compared with the sales of 1872, show a relatively large increase beyond the sales of other makers. For instance, in 1872 wo sold 45,000 more machines than any other company ; whereas, in 1873, thv sales were Mud in 1971 our sales were ’"T! 148 852 Machine sMorc Thau Any Otlics Company. OFFICIAL EFFORT. The following is a correct report of the sales of sewing machines made by the lead ing companies during the past four years. A careful examination of tiio figures will show that the “SINGER” have largely in creased eacli year, while, ou the contrary, a corresponding decrease is shown in the sales reported by all other companies. This is a highly satisfactory result to us, and is only another proof that “merit always has its re ward.” Sewing Machine Sales for 1874. Machines sold.
