Well, a few days ago I was on a regular review of our db~ ti iet roads, and arriving at a house where sever;.; had assembled, being of an in* quisitive disposition, I alighted and learned that such gathering was the re sult or caused by a middle aged h;dy having an aching tooth which she de sired to liaVvj pulled, and learning that our good friend Captain J. M. P. was going to perform the operation I rer maioed to sec him through. Tho Captain secured my pocket knife and flourishingit as an experienced doc tor of dentistry would a keen lancet, pro ceeded to cut around the gums. The munn',r in which lie performed this part of lus j b would have done credit to a skillful hand at the business. liis next move (and I have no doubt that wirle the lady had her ahing tooth, he had i aq aching desire in this direction from the fir t,)was to gently place his left arm around tho neck and underneath the i jaw while he held his jagged forceps in the other hand. Alarmed at this familiar conduct, she with an effort disengaged his embracing arm, and with the action informed him tlirt she suffered no liv ing man save her own de r Jimmy to thus embrace her. This caused a ces sation in the dental proceedings until the good Captain explained the actual importance of such action on iis part, and tho necessity of her calm! sub mitting thereto This point being am icably settled the Captain bridged his nose with a pair of spectacles, seized his forceps and inserted them iu the patient’s mouth and was in the act of getting firm hold on the tooth, when the lady grasped the Captain's arm, thrusting it back, and freeing her mouth, informed him she had as soon die a lingering death from toothache as to have a man double back her toDgue down her throat with his tweezers aud choke her to death. The Captain being good pluck again beset himself and this time pulled a tooth, but the wrong one. and was re* proved for 11is, the lady asserting he had no more mercy on her than a Sioux India n would. The Captain and ills patient agreed fi tally upon another puii i.iid before the lady could idea for mere/, lie led her moiufi chock full oi' fingers and before she quite suffocated brought forth tho aching monster. Now, Mr. Editor, I have not strained the imagination in this instance, but this actually occurred. Dr. It. was oh hand ;Uid tensed ton case over to Cap tain P. Now why dw.-a C-inta l.t P. at tempt the Hko of this?
