CALHOUN TIMES local news. Visitor —Wednesday night—Jack Frost. Mrs J. C. Fain has gone to th° Centennial. The Geneva Lamp burns dimly for Mr. Hilliard. CoL. Dabney will speak in Adairsville next Saturday. The post office at this place is now opened on Sunday from 9:30 to 10 A. M. It is a queer centennial fact that the largest number of babies bom this year are boys. There are only tnieo months more of leap year and the girls should embrace the opportunity and the men along with it. Some men seem to think that an able bodied horn of a cold morning will im part as much warmth to the system as three overcoats. Mr Ellis is the spryest candidate on the list now It might have been named Sammy Tilden, but it’s a girl and weighed twelve pounds. See announcement of Dr. Reeves. — He is well qualified and if elected, will wi'l make a good County Treasurer. He will be remembered at the polls. At the O- O. I! Ike ! “ Gordon county ?” Examine your exchanges, Mr. Editor, and it possible inform us who that phellow ’ is. Or, do you think by res ferencc to a map we could find out his locality, and then by locate him? Was he at the front formerly with the gal* lant 500 or 600 ? Now we think those 500 or 600 votes changed from Dabney to Felton since 1874 are the products of a fanciful, if not distempered imag*. ination. We don’t believe he has ever found any one, friend or foe, igi.ora it enough to concede any such thing as 1 e wrote. Will he please rise and ex plain ? Let u* know, Mr. “Gordon Coun ty,” who, besides yourself, has not trav* eled around sufficiently not to know that Fairmount is not all of GorJcn county, though it may be the home of this representative political wiseacre and custodian of “unadulterated” Democ racy. WITH ATTACIDI KM’S For All Kinds of Work. is fast winning favor in the household, a 9 shown by the rapidly increasing sales. This New Family Machine is capa ble ot a range and variety of work such a was once thought impossible to perform by machinery. We claim and can show that it is the cheapest-, most beautiful, delicately arranged, nicely adjusted, easily operated, and smoothly running of all the family sewing machines. It is remarkable, not only for the range and variety of its sow ing, but also for t lie variety and different kinds of texture whien it will sew with equl facility and perfection, using siik twist, linen, or cotton thread, ftrreor coarse, making the inter elastic loch stitch, alike on both sides of the fabric sew a. Tints beaver cloth, or leather, may be sewn with great strength and uuiferroity of stitch aml.lna moment, this willing and never wearying instrument may be adjusted for fine work on gauze or gossamer tissue, or raotuckingi of tarlatan, or rutHing, or al most any other work which delicMc fingers have been known to perform. Ours having long been the popular and practical machines for martafi eturing pur poses, some dealers, using “the tricks of trade,” take advantage of this in trying to persuade purchasers that our family Ala cuine is not equal, for family sewing to our Manufacturing Machines for manufacturing purposes. But. purchasers-—and they arc apt to examine carefully before choosing— have not been merely persuaded, but con ) inced that our new family machine embod ies new and essential principles—simplicity of construction ; ease of operation ; uni formity of precise actron at any speed ; ca pacity forr in ge and variety of work,’fine or coarse -leaving all rivals behind it. Sewiar Machine Sales 0f 1874. The table of sewing machine sales for 1874 show that our sales for that year amounted to 211,697 machines, being a large increase over the sales of the previ ous year. The table shows that our sales exceed those of any other company for the period named, by the number of 148,862 machines, nearly Three Times Those of any Com pany. It may be further stated that the sales of 1878, as compared with the sale of J.&72, show a relatively, large increas beyond the sales of other makers. For instance, in 1872 we sold 45,000 more machines than any other company ; whereas, in 1878, the sales were -and iu 1974 our sales were 148,852 Machines* Modi Any Other Compau OFFICIAL REPORT. The following is a correct report of the sales of sewing machines made by the lead ing companies during the past four year*. A careful examination of the figures will show that the “SINGER” have largely in creased each year, while on the contrary, a corresponding decrease is shown in the sales reported by all other companies. This is a highly satisfactory result to us, and is only another proof fhat “merit always has its re ward.” Sewing Machine Sales for 1871. Machines sold.
