THE NEW FAMILY
SINGER
Sewing Machine.
WITH ATTACH MEKTS
For All Kinds of Work,
is fast winning favor in the household, a s
ahown by the rapidly increasing sales.
This New Family Machine is capa
ble of a range and variety of work such a
was once thought impossible to perform by
machinery. We claim and can show thai
it is the cheapest, most beautiful, delicately
arranged, nicely Adjusted, easily operated,
and smoothly running of all the family
sewing machines. It is remarkable, not
only for the range and variety of its sew
ing, but. also for the variety and different
kinds of texture whicn it will sew witl
equal facility and perfection, using gill
twist, linen, or cotton thread, fine or coarse,
making the iuter-ela3tic lock stitch, alik<
on both sides of the fabric sewn. Thus
beaver cloth, or leather, may be sewn witl
great strength and uniformity of stitch
and,i n a moment, this willing and nevei
wearying instrument may be adjusted foi
fine work on gauze or gossamer tissue, 01
motuckingi of tarlatan, or ruffling, or al
most any other work which delicate finger. 1
have been known to perform.
Ours having long been the popular and
practical machines for manufacturing pur
poses, some dealers, using “ the tricks o
t’rade,” take advantage of this in trying t(
persuade purchasers that our Family Mu
chine is not equal, for family sewing to oui
Manufacturing Machines for manufacturing
purposes. But purchasers—and they an
apt to examine carefully before choosing
have not been merely persuaded, but con
vinced that our nkw family machine embod
ies new and essential principles—simplicity
of construction ; ease of operation ; uni
formity of precise action at any speed; ca
pacify forrmge and variety of work, fin<
or coarse—leaving all rivals behind it.
Sewin'? Machine Sales of 1874
The table of sewing machine sales foi
187-1 show that our sales for that yeai
amounted to 211,697 machines, being a
large increase over the sales of the previ
ous year. The table shows that our salet
cxceed those of any other company for tin
period named, by the number of 148,852
machines, nearly
•
Three Times Those of any other Com
pany.
It may be further stated that the sales ot
1873, as compared with the sale of i872,
show a relatively large increas* beyond
the sales of other makers. For instance,
in 1872 we sold 45,000 more machines than
any other company ; whereas, in 1873, the

OFFICIAL RETORT.
The following ia a correct, report of the
sales of sewing machines made by the lead
ing companies during the past four years.
A careful examination of the figures will
show that the “SINGER” have largely in
creased each year, while on thecontraiv, a
corresponding decrease is shown in the sales
reported by all other companies. This is a
highly satisfactory result to us, and is only
another proof that “merit always has its re
