every man you meet now.
Radicalism is to be routed next
week.
Seis advertisement of Dr. Ayer’s
medic’.nes in this issue. They are pre
parations enjoying a world-famous rep
utation gained from their successful
use throughout the country fora series
of years.
Tiie Centennial fever has beeu some
what extensive in these suburbs during
the last week or so. Two young men
left here this week to get a last glimpse
at Uncle Sam’s exhibition.
Miss Kittte Linn died at her home
near the Bartow county line, one day
last week. Tae deceased was one of the
pares and best young ladies of Gordon
county, and had many friends in and
about Calhoun. We heartily sympa
thize with her surviving relatives.
A big barbecue comes off at Cranea

rousing crowd is expected aud some
splendid addresses.
We are glad to see the Savannah News

Our farmer friends throughout the
county have been making licks tell
this year on crops in general but that
which comes next in importance to the
sorghum crop, which is the most boun
tiful for a lengthy period, comes the
sweet potato crop. We hear of mon.-
Ft reus yields here and there. Mr. Law
rence Jones brings us in a specimen of
the LI ay ti variety which would make
a splendid mess for a good sized family.
It weighed five and a half pounds
lie cultivated one acre, and says he
realized from it two hundred bushels,
-and thinks it paid him acording to
labor ground, etc., better than any of
his other cr ps.
Gen Win T. Wofford spoke in the
Court House Thursday. He had a pret
ty fair heaiing cl whom a great many
were Felton’s supporters at the county
precincts. He pretented that his ad
dress was in the interest of Dr. Felton’s
yet it was mild and conciliatory, n.fith
er able nor nteresting, yet rather
lengthy. He praised Felton’s ability and
integrity, and at the same time gave
Col Dabney a good name In a in.ld
way he attempted to show that Col. Dab*
ney would get the support of some Re
publicans, which he made an excuse for
the truthful assertion that some very
bad men were supporting Dr. Felton
which Dr. Felton was not to blame for.
The weakest part of his speech was an
effort to show that Zaeh Hargrove, who
has gloriously gone forth and told his
Radical followers to support Feltcn ,was
a Democrat and never was anythin"
else (If these are the kind we’ll not take
any in ours.

What we claim, in substance is, that this is an honest machine, and if put in your

Persons who have tried all machines are unanimous in declaring this to be the easiest

THE NEW FAMILY
SINGER
Sewing \l achine
WITH : ATTACHMENTS
For All Kinds of Work
is fist winning favor in the household, as
shown by the rapidly increasing sales.
This New Family Machine is capa
ble of a range and variety of work such a
was once thought impossible to perform by
machinery. We claim and can show that
it is the cheapest, most beautiful, delicately
arranged, nicely adjusted, easily operated,
and smoothly running of all the family
sewing machines. Jt is remarkable, not
only lb:* the rang and variety of its sew
ng, but also for the variety and different
kinds of texture whicn it will sew with
equal facility and perfection, using silk
twist, linen, or cotton thread, fine or Coarse,
making the inter-elastic lock stitch, alike
on botli sides of the fabric sew n. Thus
beaver cloth, or leather, may be sewn with
great strength and uniformity of stitch ,
and, n a moment, this willing and never
wearying instrument may be adjusted lbr
fine work on gauze or gossamer tissue, or
motuckingi of tarlatan, or ruffling, or al
most any other work which delicate fingers
have been known to perform.
Ours having long been tho popular and
practical machines for mauuf i cttiring pur
poses, some dealers, using ‘-the tricks of
trade,” take advantage of this in trying to
persuade purchasers that our Family Ma
chine is not equal, for family sewing to our
Manufacturing Machines for manufacturing
purposes. But purchasers—and they are
apt to examine carefully before choosing—
have not been merely persuaded, but con
vinced that our new family machine embod
ies new and essential principles—simplicity
of construction ; ease of operation ; uni
formity of precise action at any speed; ca
pacity ferriage and variety of work, fine
or coarse-leaving all rivals behind it.
Sewing M achine Sales 0f1874.
The table of sewing machine sales for
1874 show that our sales for that year
amounted to 211,097 machines, being a
large increase over the sales of the previ
ous year. The table shows that our sales
exceed those of any other company for the
period named, by the number of 148,862
machines, nearly
Three Times Those of any othe Com
pany.
It may be further stated that the sales of
1873, as compared with the sale of i872,
show a relatively large increase beyond
tne sales ot other makers. For instance,
in 1872 we sold 46.000 more machines than
any other company whereas, in 1873, the

-A REPORT.
Tiie following is a correct report of the
sales of sewing machines made by the lead
ing companies during the past four years
A eal-eful examination of the figures will
show that the “SINGER” have largely in
creased each year, while, on the contrary a
corresponding decrease is shown in the sales
reported by all other companies. This is a
highly satisfactory result to us, and is only
