Thigpen, pre-I siding elder Dalton district. —. Letter List. —The following letters ! remain unca'lcd for in the post office at Ca houn, Ga., Dec. 14th, 1876 : J. T. Rill, J- M. Fite, John W. Stanton, W. S Tomlin. Wm. Walraven Persons calling for any of said letters will please say advertised. Robt Ran son e P. M. y\ e wish to employ from the first of January, a boy of moral and indmtrioLS habits who has several years experience j in the printing business, and also a boy ' capable of learning the trade and maka j ing a useful assistant. An applicant for either place must be strictly relia ble with the other requirements, and wili.ng to work at a price in accordance with hard times. On Friday night, the 29th instant, the Good Templars will give a public entertainment, the main features of which will be music and speeches.— Every effort will be made to render the occasion interesting both to members of the order and to the visitors who attend. The objects are to develop an int rest in the temperance cause that will be beneficial in securing members. The latest novelty in the way of a dance is witnessed on the wood train, where the male and female darkies of this neighborhood meet in an old car box, extend their dusky palms to each other and shulHe around to the music of a fiddle with two strings. This is more lively than pleasant to the dwellers there-about. Famastics. Rendezvous Alley, Dec 14, 1876. Whereas, The year just closing, which is the hundredth aniversary of our independence as a nation, has been one of most gracious good luck, and man has been made to revel in nature’s gifts bestowed upon us in numerous ways, it becomes all people to rejoice ; therefore it is ordered by the president that the jovial members of the lloyal Fantastic Corps do assemble at A ’ E. J. Kiker’s office, on Tuesday nigt the 19th instant, to arrange plans for the annual Christmas parade. Let all be their pi ces, rhat this may be the most festive ride the denizens have ever w itnessed. At the instance of the President. M erjjax, Sec. We know of nothing the beneficial effects of which so well combine them selves with pleasure as one of the de lightful Turkish baths to be enjoyed at lho hygienic institute of Dr. J. Stain back Wilson, at Atlanta. After going through ihe various processes one won ders how they endured the steaming, clawing and Irigid showering that suc ceed each other, and wonder again how the inventive genius of man evet hit upon a plan which should so change one’s feelings in so short a time and re maikuble manner. The invalid here finds a remedy the wonderful strength ening virtues of which at once are plainly acknowledged, and goes away with the system renewed ~nd vitality imparted under the reviving influences of' the different baths and other restora tive expedients Dr Wilson has a de partment especially fitted up for the la dies, under the care- of Mrs Wilson, and females can now enj -y this great luxury and realize its advantages. After this i-sue we suspend for the Christmas holidays, as is our cusb m, and will publish no paper until the 6ih of January As fifty uumbers complete a volume, this gives us two holidays in the year, which are usuaUy < bserved by the weekly press fourth of July and Christmas As we never observed the fourth we are entitled to ihe next two weeks The time we shall employ in o ei hauling our boots and straightening out our office business, which is una voidably behind, and preparing improve ments for the coming year. During our past management of the paper we ha\ e had to labor under serious disadvanta ges —besides an unliberal support, we have had many troubles to encounter in our business, of which few were aware. While we have tried to maintain prompt ness and keep our paper up to a good standard’ we are free to acknowledge, at the same time, to many shortcomings and irregularities, and we feel grateful te our patrons who have borne with us in these little difficulties. Though we have but little idia of an increase of sun ort sufficient. to war rant, we have concluded to risk, in the coming year, additional expenditures in procuring more substantial labor in our mechanical department, so that we may be enabled to devote more time t> get ting up read.ng matter, and we also ex pect to introduce new features which will commend themselves *o our ve;uL ers. We are determined that our en ergies shall be so directed that the mer its alone of .ur paper shall ask an en° lislment of the aid of our friends in building if up : s a permanent iustitu tion of our town and county. V\ e de-* sire to get our business in good shrpe in our spare time, and ask that oor sub scribers call on us and settle up or send in their subscriptions between this and he close t f the year without, waiting for a written reminder, as we shall ex pect a settlement with every subscriber whose subscription is not already paid in advance In justice to our business, we s’ all be compelled to cut oft many from or iist who have too long neg lected to pay us, and wo trust all who are in arrears and desire their papers sitll continu and will so arraage witl/us m the next two weeks. Editor Times : Please publish the names of M. V. Watts, J. B. Gordon, R. T. Reese, N. J. Boaz, and Col. R. M. Young, as suitable persons for coun ty commissioners at the coming elec tion.
