Personal.—Capt G. It. Boaz is in
town, looking well.
A neat little sign, the work of that
excellent painter, Mr. W. W. Dunn,
now ornaments the front of our office-

now prepared to furnish you first-class

Give us a trial. Freeman A Bro.
We call attention to the card of Mr.
J. W. Wells, Tailor, which appears in
our adversising columns. lie has open
ed his shop over Mr. M. H. Jackson’s,
and trusts that his experience, etc., will
win him patronage.
The pleasant weather we have had
during the past week has been the
theme of various speculations among
wiseacres. To say the least of it, while
it may be rather peculiar, it is not stall
disagreeable.
TiiJS new boat, “ Mary (Jai'ter,” that
is to ply the Oostenaula from Home to
Carter’s Mill, was successfully launched
at llesaca on the 23d ult. She is ex
pected to make her first trip to-morrow.
Those who have so vigorously pushed
forward this enterprise are entitled to
much credit.
We have received this Week, but we
regret to say, too late for publication,
an article in reply to the one last week
over the signature of “ Subscribers.”—
We apologize to the w riter for its una
voidable omission this week, and prom
ise that it shall promptly appear in our
next.
Married —Ou the evening of the
22d of January, by J. L. Camp, N. P ,
Mr. James A. McClain to Miss liilla
Wood, all of Gordon county.
On the evening of the 22d of Janu
ary, at the residence of the bride’s
father, by J. L. Camp, N. P., Mr. W,

Accident. —On yesterday even
ing Mr. Z. T. Gray, one of our best
citizens undertook to drive to a buggy a
wild horse, which took fright and r.n
away. Mr. Gray was soon thrown from
the buggy, and besides receiving other in
juries, hud his collar bone broken. We
giet deeply the occurrence, and wish
aim a speedy recovery from his inju
ries.
Col. Joe McConnell, we are glad
to know, will soon be neighbor to us.—
He lies recently purchased the small lot
fidjoining our office, and having al
ready bought the lumber, will com
mence at once to have built a neat little
office. He is as jovial and clever, as lie
is efficient in his profession, and it is to
be hoped he will give the Times his
card when lie has finished and moved
into his new office.

The general prospects of Calhoun are, |
um y safely say, and proudly too, at
tbe present time, more flattering, by far,
thm at any period since the war.—
business prospects are brightening, the
place seems to be possessed with a gen
eral spirit of improvement, the health
ot the community was never known to
be better, and in fact everything is on
the look up —assuming a general aspect
of prosperity. To the industrious who
are 011 the lookout for a suitable place
to locate, we say, make this your stop
ping point.
Juvenile “ Innocence.” One

J//’. Editor : Kugtwiug you like to
give your readers good news, we pfo
pose to tell them that the speech of
Mr. Hickman at Adairsville was a
grand success. It was full of good
sound sense, convincing argument, and
! rich and pointed illustrations. It was
Ia powerful appeal to men and women
|of good reasoning powers, as it drew
around the altar no less than 55 now
members. Think of it, Good Tem
plars, and resolve to do “ all in your
power” to aid the cause.
With the 55 new additions to Phi
lo Udor” Lodge, she promises to rivaj
; her sister, the Robinson Lodge. All
i honor to “ Philo Udor,” and may it
stimulate us of the Robinson Lodge to
strike bolder blows, and make our mark
higher than ever before.
We have learned that institutions
like men must stand upon their ow.i
merit There are some plants known
as parasitic plants which feed upon oth
ers, and hiially kill them. Parasitic
men and institutions stifllo the might
iest giants in the land, they prey upon,
others, sueking their very life blood,
thus gaining as they suppose fresh
strength from the ruin of their neigh
bors. All such aj:e formidable enemies
to society, but the order known as I. 0.
G. T. is notone of the parasitic kind
is an independent institution, relying
upon its own merits. It has not fixed
itself upon the ruined walls of some
fallen predecesor, but has sprung from
the deep roots of love from man to his
fellow man. Our Order has been as
sailed and will be assailed, but her no
ble crown rises high above all her ene
mies. The arraying of our forces is no
fantastic parade, it is an intention of
declaring war upon king Alcohol. We
are in earnest, we mean business, and
every man wo reclaim is an everlasting
monument of praise to the institution.
The eloquent, the noble Hickman has
resolved to spend his life in reclaiming
his fellow men. What a sacra lice ; but
what a grand object; May many flow
ers with their roseate hues bloom along
his pathway through life, and may he at
last be permitted to drink the pure
bright water that sparkles in Eden
above. X.
Good Templarism at Adairsville.
Just -as we are about to go to
press, we receive from our correspond
ent “ Cico ” a well written communica
tion in regard to the recent lecture of
Hurl. J. J. Hickman at Adairsvile, and
the great stirring up of the temperance
cause in that place. We regret that
the crowded state of our columns will
not admit of its publication ; and we
have been furnished from another
source already another communication
descriptive ol the occasion. Mr. Hick
man is a giant in the cause, and the or'
dor at this place should make au effort
to secure him te lecture here. We ex
tract from “ Cleo’s” letter a list of the

All chronic complaints are aggravated by a
