I lie fii>t burial of a member of tlie
Patrons of Hu>b;»ndij with the honors
ct the order ihnt has come in our n-dicc,
took place a few and ys since in Kiuki
poo, when the rt'inaiim of Henry Bolin
were consigned to their hist resting
place with all the ponip and funeral pa
geant of the Granger burial serrie . —-
Mr. Bulin was a i»rouiinent mem her,and
the attendance was verj large, #ouie
4t)o persons being present. The pro
gramme of the burial was abuut as fob
Lvrs>:
On leaving the residence of the de
ceased, the hearse which contained the
remains was flanked on either side by
three pill bearers, who walked with’un
covered heads and regalias draped in
mourning. Following the hearse cauie
the relatives of the deceased, and next
marched the Sisters of the Order clad
in full retralia. The Brothers came
next, and following them the vast con
course of people, who had come from
far and near to witness the ceremonies.
The remains were first taken to the
church, where a priest vent through a
service peculiar to the Catholic church,
of which the deceased was a member.
When the exercises had been concluded
the procession took up its march for the
eomotery, where the Granger funeral
rites were performed. The coffin was
placed on two supports directly over tho
open grave, aud remained there until
the impressive and interesting sei vice
was concluded. G. B. Coffin, Master of
the Franklin Grange, conducted the
ceremonies.
When the brothers and fistera of the
Grange of which the deceased was a
member had assembled about the grave,
the Master read a selection from the
burial ritual, followed by a second se
lection by the Chaplain, and then the
members repeated slowly and solemnly
the Lord’s prayer, closing with a beau
tiful and appropriate hyuiu. The Broth
ers of the Order then stepped to the
grave aud threw into the opening sev
eral boquets of flowers and evergreens.
A shun, but powerful address was next
delivered by the Chaplain. While the
coffin was being lowered into the grave,
a beautiful ami soul-inspiring hymn was
sung, and during the singing the Sis
ters strewed boquets of flowers upon
the descending coffin until it reached
the wooden box at the bottom of the
grave The Master then spriukled a
portion of dirt thrown from the grave
over the coffin, and the service closed
with tho solemn benediction of the
Chaplain.
Taken throughout the ce-emonies
were very beautiful and impressive.—
This was the first burial of a Granger
in the county, and, if we are correctly
informed, iu the State— that is, with
the ceremonies of the Order.— Leaven •

To Make Farmintj Profitable*
1. Kn w the business thoroughly.
2. Keep thoroughly informed in all
current matters relating to agriculture
and horticulture.
3. Keep out of debt.
4. Own no unproductive land—that
is, do not pay taxes on land that is not
either paying a good interest on the ht
vestment by its annual appreciation in
value or that you cannot make yield a
profitable income on its market value
and the money and labor you expend
upon it annually.
5. Turn everything you produce to
account—that is, do not spend time or
money in producing any crop for whieh
you knew there is no demand, or which
cannot be converted by feeding to stock
or by manufacture in a form that will
command a paying price.
G. Buy only such tools as are neces
sary to the economical prosecution of
your work, do not invest in tools when
you can hire them more cheaply than
ycu can own them.
7. Remember that it is better to buy
food for stoek and convert it into beef,
mutton, pork, wool, butter, cheese, etc.,
upon your farm, than to sell raw pro
ducts of the farm, without a return of
fertilizing agents.
How to Bf.d Sweet Potatoes.—
First procure some good stable manure,
then make a pen three feet in width by
as many feet in length as desired. Fill
in the manure and tramp it until it is
two feet in height. Several smooth
poles are to be placed iu the heap as it
is made up, that they can be removed
when the bed gets too hot, and thus cool
it. Now top dress the bed with well
rotted chip manure to the depth of four
it i lies. Cover the bed and let it stand
six or ten days. Then put in your po
tatoes for sprouting and cover them
three inches deep iu the chip manure,
which will be very near dry at that
tine. Water bed slightly every even
ing unless yon see it is getting too cool.
In that ease take water so warm that
you cannot hold your singe-s iu it. and
wet down to the stable manure, and keep
the bed closely covered with old blank
ets for a day or two, and repeat it if
necessary. G. S. B.
Beans. —The bean wants a quick,
dry soil, finely pulverized, and kept
dean by cultivation. The seed may bo
planted in hills, a foot or two apart, in
rows two and a half or three feet apart,
ur in drills—about three times as thick
an corn in either caic. The small white
is most easily raised, most certain, ri
pens best and keeps best ou sea voy*
ages The larger beans, as the kidney
aud marrow, sell at higher prices, hut
are more difficult to raise, and do not
ripen so perfectly.

For Female Complaints, in young
