LUDDEN & BATES’ New Musical Warerooms—They Pre pare for the Wholesale Trade. Another important branch of trade to I which we would invite the special attention I of our readers is the Mammoth Musical Establishment of Messrs. Ludden & Bates. | A few years ago the music trade of our city could have been conducted in a room 10x12 feet, but when 1 .udden & Bates took a hand in that line they seemed to infuse new life into it, and, as an evidence of how our peo ple are appreciating their efforts, we need only add that the greatest trouble which L. & B. have had to contend with of late years has been in getting room enough to ' conduct their fast increasing business. On the first of last June they reached the height of their ambition by moving into the large building corner of Congress, Whitaker and I St. Julian streets, thus giving them three floors and a cellar, each measuring 60x60 ' feet, which is undoubtedly the largest and I most complete Musical Establishment be tween Baltimore and New Orleans, for | there is certainly nothing in the South (ex- ; cepting those two cities) to compare with it. Messrs. Ludden & Bates have long since desired to branch out into the Wholesale trade, and now that they have ample room for displaying their stock in their wholesale departments, they are offering to the trade | a large and well assorted stock of Pianos,. Harps, Orguinettes, Guitars, Violins, Ac cordions, Banjos, Drums, etc., and, in fact, 1 anything n the shape of a Musical Instru ment, from a Small Horn to an outfit for a , full Brass Band. This enterprising firm | also deal largely in Sheet Music, Violin | and Guitar strings, and every imaginable article pertaining to the music trade. Our entire South, as well as Savannah in par ticular, has just cause to feel proud of; Ludden & Bates’ Musical Warerooms, for ■ such an establishment can but be considered I as a monument to the indomitable perse-I verance and unwavering enterprise which j have characterized the firm of Ludden & I Bates since their first opening in our city in 1870, and now that they have facilities for conducting a jobbing trade, there is no use of sending orders to Northern or Western markets. RIESER & STERN. Wholesale Dealers in Cigars, Tobacco,l Snuff, Pipes and Cigarettes. This branch of trade finds able represen- | tatives in the firm of Rieser & Stern, who | are now receiving large additions to their stock. Mr. Rieser has just returned from the Northern markets, where he has been for several weeks past selecting his stock for the fall trade in person. Anticipating a heavy trade, they have laid in an unusual ly large and well selected stock of goods, and are, therefore, prepared to meet the demands of their customers as to quality, quantity and price. In their Cigar Depart ment we noted among the numerous brands of the weed “ Our Senators,” “ Tybee Sea Beach,” “ Full Grown Picaninies” and “ Cameos,” besides a full stock of Key West and imported cigars, embracing all of the most popular brands. There, too, can be seen a large and well assorted stock of Pipes and Cigar-holders of every imagina ble shape, size and price. In fact, their stock of smoker’s articles are complete in every respect, and includes all of the latest novelties. They also carry a full stock of Smoking Tobaccos of all the leading brands. CHEWING TOBACCO. This enterprising firm are also offering to the trade a large and well assorted stock of Chewing Tobaccos of different grades and prices. Among which can be seen such popular brands as “ Unique,” “ Rappahan nock,” “ Dixie’s Delight,” “ Wade Hamp ton,” “ Southern Beauty,” “ Gilt Edge,” etc., and, to sum it up in a few words, Messrs. Rieser & Stern are offering a large and well assorted stock of Cigars, Tobaccos, Pipes, Cigarettes, Snuff, and Smoker’s arti cles. Parties visiting our city, or ordering by mail, would do W’ell to call and inspect their stock and ascertain prices before pur chasing elsewhere. The Central Short Line. We have used all of the persuasive elo quence that we could command to bring Savannah before our Southern section as a Wholesale Market. There is no dis puting the fact that our city is the Whole sale Depot for Georgia, Florida, Lower South Carolina, and Eastern Alabama, yet with all of our boasted advantages, there are some merchants who will go North to | buy their goods, and to all such we would say : Go via The Central Short Line, which not only passes through the most beautiful of Southern scenery, but the roads are well equipped and in good order. Those who anticipate a trip North on business or for pleasure, or to any of the Virginia or North Carolina Springs, should read the announcement of Mr. Jno. Macmurdo, the General Passenger and Ticket Agent, which 1 give an idea of the summer arrangements, and.for further information in this section, address Ernest Wiltz, Passenger Agent, Savannah, Ga. WEST BROS. Cotton Factors and Commission Mer chants, also Agents for the Delta Cotton Tie. We would call the attention of our readers to the advertisement of Messrs. West Bros., which will be found in another column. The gentlemen composing this firm, Messrs. John R. and Jas. G. West, rank among our most wide-awake and en terprising young merchants, and those who entrust their business to their care can rely on having it in safe hands. They ars now prepared to make liberal advances on con signments of cotton and other merchandise. They are also agents for the celebrated Delta Cotton Tie, and as cotton will make its way into market in a few days, mer chants and planters would do well to confer with Messrs. West Bros, in reference to the popular Tie they sell. Read their advertise ment, and see the advantages claimed for the Delta Tie.
