OUR VISITORS.
There nro a great many North
ern, Eastern and Western visitors
of all ages and sizes now in our
city. We are real glad to see
them, and only wish that they
had brought all of their cousens
along. All of our hotels are
crowded, and the several proprie
tors are just in the host humor
imaginable. Most of them don t
care a continental for expenses,
now that the house is full, and
some of them have actually given
up sodawater and eigarotts, and
now tackle whiskey straight, and
a good cigar, sometimes as often
as twice a day. We like to see
our landlords in a good humor,
it’s really amusing to watch their
mauuvers as the 13us arrives with
a good load of passengers, and he
over the directory and
sees only one vacant room in the
house, and ten or twelve weary
tourist waiting for accommoda
tions. He regrets to tell them
that “he's full,”(now please don’t
misconstrue our language, for we
Mill T eveF get full,” oh, no ! not
them), and can’t store them
away, and don’t he hate to see
them walk out, for it is then that
he thinks of that little $4 per day,
and can only find consolation by
rendering thanks for the cold
wintery blasts of the North and
West, which compels so many to
come South to thaw out at $4 per
day. No extra charge for ice
water or tooth picks—and Pal
metto fans thrown in when the
thermometer reaches 98. Our
visitors bring a great many fine
looking young ladies down with
them, and we like to walk by our
hotels and see the windows nice
ly ornamented with pretty faces,
as they often are about 11 a. m.
on a good day, when everything
looks so cheerful, and nature
seems to smile sweetly on the
surroundings. It is a beautiful
sight, and is just the thing to
make us poor devils feel what a
crime it is to be poor. We all
never feel our poverty more
keenly than when seeing others
enjoying the luxuries of accumu
lated wealth, However,boys don’t
be dispondent “we may be well
off yet” for the tide of prosperity
often changes its course, and our
time may come ere long. In our
next issue we will give our visi
tors some dots in regards to our
city, and the points of interest
therein. 111 the mean time if
they wish to buy anything let them
cast their eyes over our advertis
ing columns which they will find
a good business directory of our
city. _
