Savannah won the second game of the series from Mobile yesterday, by timely hit ting and daring base running, by a score of 6 to 4. Hill and Jantzen held the points, for McCloskey, Knorr and Zahner were up for Mobile. Butler played third, the condition ol Hutchinson’s sore ankle precluding the possibility of his playing. The game was a very pretty one throughout, notwithstanding the tact that Larocque, who had an off day, made three of the six errors made by Savan nah. Mobile made but five hits off Hill's deliv ery, with a total of six bases, Gettinger hav ing made two of the n, one in the third in ning and a two-b gger in the third. Hill struck out seven men, gave tour bases on balls and hit one. Knorr was touched up for ten hits, with a total ot 11 bases, shuck out three men and gave four bases on balls. ONE EACH IN THE FIRST. Both teams male on? run in the first in ning. Clarke got his base on balls, McCann bunted, but was thrown out at first, Clarke going to second, from which position he scored on Larocque’s hit to center field Wolf hit to center, but was put out going to second on McCloskey's hit to short, and McCloskey was thrown out trying to steal second. Kling was hit, was advanced on a base on balls to Gettinger. McGowan flew to Buller. Taylor hit to short. Peeples threw him out at second, but Kling scored on Larocque’s wild throw to first, and Wells flew out to McCann. BUTLER'S TWO-BASE lllY. Savannah was blanked in the second and third, bi the tourth, however, two runs were scored. Woll flew out to Berte, McCloskey hit to left. Jantzen went out from pitcher to first-, and Butler hit to center for two bases, McCloskey scoring. Peeples hit to center and Butler scored, and I III! hit to Knorr, who threw him out at first. Mobile was blanked, Hill striking out Kling and Knorr, Pender fly ing out to Butler. The audience applauded Butler for his long l it in this inning as well .as for his daring base running. Kling got a hit, but it availed him nothing, as Gettinger flew out to McCloskey, Pender to Butler and Knorr struck out. WON ON ERRORS IN THE FIFTH. Savannah won the game in the fifth inning by a costly error ol Wells. Clarke got his base on balls, McCann hit to center, but was thrown out at second on Larocque's hit to I short, the latter getting his base on fielders’ | choice, while Clark" went to third. MOBILE GETS THREE RUNS. 11l the seventh inning Wells’ aggregation got in two runs on two hits and an error of Peeples’ wild throw to Im’ si Taylor's hit. Wells hit Io short .and went out .it first, and Taylor Scored on Zahnei’s hit to center Barte went out from pitcher to first has.-. Pendei j and Knorr hit safe, and the former scored. What is a more curious study than to ex amine closely the head and features of a great man or woman and compare them with those of the ordinary person. One wonders if it is because of some difference in the shape of the heads and the mold of the features that there has been such a vast difference m the characters. It is a fascinating study. It is an instinctive one. In ‘‘America’s Greatest Men and Women,” a remarkable work which The Daily Dispatch is now offering to its readers, opportunity is afforded lor this curi ous comparison. Never was issued a more interesting series, It absorbs the attention of all who see it, so perfect are tile.pictures and so faithful and entertaining are panning biographies. The Augusta Herald, one of the strongest Evans papers in Georgia, has given up the fight and admits the nomination ol Col. W. Y. Atkinson. Here is what the Herald says editorially: “It is too late to think of a third man, even if one could now go in, take the Ev -.s votes and beat Mr. Atkinson. We do not believe that Richmond county’s vote would go to any other man than Gen. Evans or Mr. Atkin son. We do net believe that this county’s, vote, or the votes ot any significantly largej number of counties, could now be diverted t J a thiid man. There ought not to be. Thß nominee will be either Gen. Evans or Mr. At kinson, and, as we have said, it looks very much like the latter named gentleman has won.” It is said our evening contemporary, the Press, will make a similar announcement in a few days.
