THE INFANTICIDE CASE. IVhnl krr <kr Authorities Doing to Ferret Out thr Myxlerj of the Nurdtr? Nothing new has been developed in Hie in l.intlAifi- case in (lie southern part of the city. It is-eitident that the dead body of the infant taken from the sewer wax the victim ol a murderer, but whether it was the mother who doomed her offspimg to its foul late and ford grave is not yet known. 1 he, infant was a white male child. It had be. d . sewed up, face and all, in a piece of white muslin or cambric, and then wrapped in an umbrella cover, which was pinned about it, evidently a woman's work. Then either smothered by the operation, or alive, it was taken to the sewer and cast in. Ihe poor little thing may have shown some signs of life, which led to the piling of so many atones upon it. lite mounted policeman who patrols that neighborhood has a long ride from East Broad to West Broad street, so that it was easy to time him and convey the infant to the man hole and lower it into the sewer, piling rocks upon it in the manner in which it was done. While the infant hatl two teeth the stage of its development indicated that it was made way with not a great while after its birth, and it is thought that it had not remained in the sywer for a longer period than 48 hours. It looks as if little interest has been taken Io work up the case, and especially so as there are the broadest hints that the mother does not reside far from the place where the Jy was discovered, hints that a shrewd : ve ought to have little trouble in p. Ihe foulest murder is that of .■nt child, and that alone should be five to spur the authorities to I in bringing the guilty ones to 'hat are the detectives for if not ano c.n i eli women and talented ■nted in portraiture and biograph in "The Marie Burroughs Art gc Celebrities."
