MARY.
Bv R. 13. Davjs,
I love to met the ray of morn,
Witen summer’s radiance gilds
the vale;
While on angelic pinions borne, ■
Calm pleasure floats upon th
gale;
The smiling morn, the dewy
field,
A thousand varied beauties
yield;
But lovelier, brighter charms
I view,
In Mary’s eyes of Heavenly
blue.
I’ve seen the rose and tulip blow, j
With many a flower of brilliant
dye,
And on tlie picture’s vivid glow
I’ve dwelt with fascinated eye.
Sweet are the painter’s ma
gic powers,
And sweet the tints of open
ing flowers;
But neither yet could boast a
hue,
Like Mary’s eyes of Hea
venly blue.
The smiles of mirth 1 love to greet. ;
Among the happy, gay and j
fair;
’Tis pleasing then; hut far more
sweet
To meet mv gentle Mary there
’Twas bliss—’twas rapture —
while l prest
The lovely gill to make me
blest;
A kind, consenting glance I j
drew j
From Mary’s eyes of Hea
venly blue.

Man has long been figura
tively compared to a worm— j
and perhaps the fnnile may
well apply,not merely from his
affinity to earth, but from the
vile uses often made of him.
Worm* are impaled upon

and massacred and mutilated
by other deffruttive engines—
and this is by beings who pre
