They marched an datintedly tip with fixed bayonets and rushed through the Spanish s u e with the utmost intrepidity. From the darkness of the night some of the troops missed their ws y, and had to march up under 3 galling fie, to the breach, which was 6 or'B feet from the ground, and not wider than to ad mit4or 5 men to enter at a time. The Spaniards fought with bra very, considering they were prin cipally undisciplined troops, con sisting of the inhabitants of the town, among whom were some of the most respectable people air! heads of families, who were posted at the breach, under the command of a French gentleman who gallantly fell m its defence. When he fell ■ all was confusion, the lLitLh rushed in, and in a place not more than 400 feet square, were piled up between 7 and 300 kil led and wounded; British and Spaniards indiscriminately mix- J.
