Pelisfier and Simpson say that the Rus-
•iun attack on the Tchernaya was a desper
ate attempt to raise the siege. The Rus
sians fought witli the greatest bravery—
thev were twice repulsed. Gen. Simpson

17th with as much success as could be ex-
pec ted.
The allies are preparing to cross the
Tchernaya.
The French lost 17 officers killed, 50
vreunded. and 1500 killed.
The Russians lost nearly 1,000 in killed,
wounded and prisoners. Letters say that
2(8X1 Rrussians were slain.
The batteries of Sweaborg were uninjur
ed.

Pelissier telegraphs on the 24th. that he

The latest accounts of the market were
favorable. The accounts of the crops had
caused a slight decline in Breadstuffs—
Flour declined 2s. Gd.; Corn Is., and closed
steady.
Fever in Norfolk.
The deaths in Norfolk on Sunday were
4". The new cases were diminishing. Eight
physicians have died.
The fever has appeared at Suffolk, and the
people are flying.
Maine (election.
So far Morrell is 3,000 ahead. The Leg
islature is probably anti-republican.
