Atlanta, September 8, 1800. Reading Matter on every Page. The Choice Case* This oa.se which was so ably argued a few days since before the Supreme Court has been decided. The opinion of the Judges was de livered yesterday evening. The Court has re fused to grant anew trial to the unfortunate young man. Fulton County Executive Committee. The following named gentlemen compose the Executive Committee of Fulton County : V. A. Gaskii.l, 15. M. Smith, Jared I. Whitaker. Thomas Haney, Jno. H. Macaslu. Thomas F. Lowe, and Dr. Jno. G. Westmoreland. By order of the Breckinridge & Lane Club of Fulton county, the following names have been added to the Executive Committee: B. C. Yancey, T. L. Cooper, John Collier, H. Muhlenbrink, C. H. Chandler, W. S. Bassforp, L. H. Davis, John Ennis. Cane Lost. Dropped from a buggy a gold headed cane, plain, with Che initials J. M. B. to N. C. 11. on Saturday last, about one o’clock, between Maj. Lovejoy's and Mr. Isaac Winsliip’s. The tinder, by leaving it at this office, will be liberally rewarded. Phenomenon. On Thursday night last, about dieven o’, lock, we beheld a very strange phenomenon. The Northern sky, to the space of 45 degrees above the horizon, wid tiuged with a blood red hue, such as a painter gives to a sunset land scape. Immediately above the horizon there was a streak of silvery light. We presume it was the Aurora Borealis. Will some of the scientific men of our city give us some light upon the subject t REMEMBER NOAV THY CREATOR. BY HELEN AI’OUSTA BROWNE. Now in Life’s bright, sliining morning— Now in childhood’s sunny hours, When the vernal Spring’s adorning Ev’ry pleasant way with flow’rs ; While the “evil days” are banished, While our hearts are free from cares, And their tablets yet untarnished By the finger-marks of years. While our skies are still unclouded. While our hopes are full of light. Ere these pleasant paths arc shrouded In the mystic veil of night : Let us make a dedication Os our spirits to the Lord, Through a daily meditation O'er the pages of ‘‘His Word.” Let us look to Him who proffers Daily messages of love, Each accept His blessed offers Os an endless life above. Now, in youth’s bright, sunny morning— Now, when Spring is in her prime. Spirit voices whisper warning. “Now is the accepted time !” OCR OLD ROOF TREE. BY MRS. R. B. EPSON. Dear hallowed shade ! tliy name recalls Sweet glimpses of the namcles, charms Os golden hours, when I reposed Beneath thy kindly sheltering arms. A vision of a dear, soft hand Laid on my head in mute caress ; And loving eyes, whose depths revealed Such wells of holy tenderness. Ah me! those loving eyes are dim Beneath the valley’s drifting leaves; And gloom and darkness fold their wings Around the mossy, brooding eaves. Yet this still hour the light of years Gleams through the shadowy lens of even, And gilds my dear old Eden home— Type of my fairer home in Heaven. Dit. RANAWAY from the subscriber on the night of the 21st ultimo, my negro boy BILLY, 14 years of age, about 4*£ feet high, and of a dark brown complexion. lie is spare built, takes long steps, has a bushy head of hair, and the formation of his head tends somewhat to the shape of a sugar loaf. He is quick spoken, has a scar on his right cheek which resembles a burn; has also a scar on his right arm, and a large one on his right leg. jle had been but a very short time in my possession, ha ving but recently purchased him, but I find he is in the habit of running off from his owners with but little provo cation, which doubtless caused the scars mentioned.
