itfo'n volume that should be in the han'd of every family in the
land, whether used as a preventive of secret vices, or as a guide
for the alleviation of one of the moat awful and destructive sour
ees ever visited upon mankind for the sins ol sensuality and impu
rity of every kind.
ft !h a volume that has received the unqualified recommendation
ot the first physician* in the land*.While many clergymen, fathers,
mothers, philanthrope;is and humanitarians, have most freely ex
tended its circulation in all quarters where its powerful teachings
would be likely to be instrumental in the moral purification and
phVMcarhealing of multitudes of our people, among the young, vol
atile and indiscreet, otherwise thepride and flower of the nation.
The author argues, particularly. most strongly against every spe
cies of self-delilemeut, and warns parents and guardians, tu search
ing terms, to guard the young of both sexes from t'.e terrible con
sequences concomitant of their ignorance of phy-lofogical laws and
sexual impurities and irregularities, whether exhibited by preco
cious development or arising from the vicious and corrupting ex
amples ot their school-mates or otherwise. To those who have
been already ensnared to the ‘‘paths that take hold on lie!],” a
clear and explicit way is shown by which they may secure arc
turn of sound health, and a regeneration of the soul from its terri
ble pollution.
It is well known that thousands of victims are auntuUly sacrifi
ced at the shrine of Quackery—especially those suffering from A e
nerial or Syphilitic diseases—Strictures, Seminal Weakness, Ner
vous Debility, and the numerous maladies which spring directly or
less remotely from the indulgence of carnal passions and secret vi
olations of Nature.
in view of these foots, emrWhen it is also considered that about
100,0(10 persons die annuptiy in Uw United t>ta|es of Consumption
—a huge majority being the victims of the voluptuous indiscretion
of their progenitors, agreeably to the Scriptural enunciation, that
the sins of the parents are visited upon the children, even to the
third and fourth generation. The Author jinbued with sentfcoents
of enlarged philanthropy, will scarcely be censured for any effort
to restrain the tuces of.the age, by the humble Instrumentality of
his Medical Manual.
