THE BARB - 7
Traveling South
Macon was the last
stop on a two week roll
ing visit to see old
friends. Having never
been to the city the tree
shaded streets with
magnificent ante -
bellum homes was
something of a surprise.
The gently sloping
streets of the town
residential district
merged with the wide
avenues of Macon’s
business district. Budd
ing shoppingcenters and
urban renewal projects
are changing and re
storing the face of the
growing mid- Georgia
city.
Macon’s We Three
Lounge is changing and
growing too. Charles
Elkins has slowly
changed the shape and
expanded the size of his
downstairs lounge to
accomodate the city’s
growing gay population.
A new sound system and
D.J. booth are the most
recent additions to the
We Three.
Charles is not through
making changes. Im
provements in the sound
system and moving the
D. J. to a loft in the
front of the lounge with
a service bar below for
the table crowd will be
built soon. You may have
never been behind stage
in any lounge but if you
have you know that the
dressing room is often
the most incredibly
small room imaginable.
Performers headed for
the Macon scene will be
pleased to find a
spacious bambo lined
dressing room behind
the stage drapery.
James and Sarah
Coventry serve you your
favorite beverage and
Sa r a h occasionally
turns in her serving tray
to entertain on the stage.
Betty greets you at the
door and checks your fur
or anything else you
don’t want to leave at
your table.
Charles has assembled
a friendly group of
people to serve you at
the We Three. They have
a good crowd to serve
there too. The Macon-
ites are a friendly group
augmented by some
delightful numbers from
surrounding villages
and Mercer University.
Our little group had a
delightful time dancing
to the disco music and
consuming our share of
the bubbly.
As you travel 1-75
from or to sunny Florida
and the Macon bypass
Jooms in front of you
make a little detour into
the city by the Ocmulcee
River and give the We
Three Lounge a whirl.

Greetings to thee from
Sara C... and the gang
at the We Three Lounge
Here’s news and notes
and quotable quotes!
A SMASHING RETURN.
Friday, April 25th,
was a gay-la nite for
the We Three. Our very
own Miss We Three,
Miss Lily Rubin, and her
court returned with a
tremendous show in tow.
The troupe, consisting
of Misses Ginger
O’Neil, Rita Dayworth,
and Special Guest Star
SAMANTHA from the
Onyx Lounge in Hot-
lanta, provided some
great entertainment.
Miss Rubin again proved
that she deserved the
honor of Miss We Three
title. She not only re
peated her winning
talent number, but gave
us some never-seen
material, and the recep -
tion was tremendous. Of
particular excellence, I
thought, was a duet be
tween Miss Rubin and
Miss Dayworth featur
ing One Less Bell To
Answer and A House Is
Not A Home. Lily will
be a tough act to follow
when the time comes to
pick our next QUEEN.
NOTES AND QUOTES
(WHATEVER)
Some people just can’t
get enough of a good
thing - - seems now
they’re eating NUTS by
the bagfull. In fact “HJ”
put away 3 bags in 30
minutes. She must have
established a record of
some DICK-tinction. Of
course, some of us are
still in the “drought
season;’’lost and found
couldn’t help; LOTS OF
LOOKIE BUT NEVER-
NO NOOKIE!!!!!!!!!!
One of our regulars;
Ma B, enjoyed the recent
Macon Central City
Park Jubilee Show so
much, she sat through
four performances.
Seems some young thing
had a lot of pull. Such a
long time to be HOLED
up. GLORY be! In my
opinion she should have
been elected QUEEN of
the Jubilee since she
spent so much time on
the THRONE.
“TT’’ is informing all
that she is altar bound
with a FISH no less. To
this reporter, that’s a
waste of humanity.
HOnneeeeeeeee, such a
nice number to let go
to waste. Tch Tch!
Miss “Magic Fingers”
has departed for higher
ground, or whatever she
will be able to get her
feet on (or in)... Of
course, she did not leave
alone - she took along
a little something
(somebody) that she
could poke along the
highway (or rest stops
and Camping areas).
Wednesday, April 23rd,
“CE,” “JL,” “PT” and
