THE BARB - 8
KILLER'S
WELL, HELLO MY
TOOTSIES, Here I go
again, however, I had
moments when I didn’t
think I’d make it. So
much going on here in
HOTLANTA. This last
month and almost as
much coming up this
month I mean with new
opening up, one burned
down, the OSCAR SHOW
a real movie queen
coming to town, Marlene
Dietrich, the exciting
MISS GAY ATLANTA
PAGENT and so much
more but I’m still here,
the still able fable,
going strong, so read on
Stars, stars, every
where, on stage and in
the audience, on the big
night, Oscar.... I was
never lovlier and I’m
here to tell you. TONI
DURAN was not there
to take home her OSCAR
as the “BEST ACTRESS
OF THE YEAR,’’ soI,m
going to Nashville, to
present it to her there.
RACHEL WELLS, last
years’s “Best Actress
Winner ” was there,
sporting a new short
hair cut and just looked
gorgeous. Frank Powell
was cheering each
winner and drinking to
each one too. JOHN
AUSTIN of SWEET GUM
HEAD, was ringside
laughing every time the
mike acted up on me.
Yes, there were some
of the old timers too,
DESIREE’ ST. CLAIR
gave one of her dazzl
ing performances and
GINA ROBERTSON, who
seldom makes an ap
pearance was just beati-
ful and was the same.,
a great hit. Past winner
“Director of the Year’’
DANNY WINSOR was
just super and received
a standing ovation,
SWEET GUM HEAD
stars SAYTON DE
VILLE and DIVA
SHANCES, who won the
STAR PERFORMANCE
AWARD were sensa-
tionl. LITTLE BOBBY
and CINDY as JUDY and
LIZA brought down the
house, to use an old
show biz phrase but they
did just that. MISS HAT -
NER was there doing
her thing so she and I
open a few envelopes
please.....MICKEY DAY
my co-hostess... was
marvelous and has
really worked hard all
this year doing all kinds
of material and when she
was named ENTER
TAINER OF THE YEAR
the crowd loved it. LEE
SHANNON won ‘“Dis
covery of the Year’’ and
gave a very moving live
From ATLANTA
performance of Marilyn
Monroe. The “Look
Alike Award’* went to
MICKEY MARTIN for
her Ann Margaret Act.
In Hollywood last year
it was the year of disas
ter in the movies with
SHAKE ‘N’ BAKE
“Earthquake’’ and the
‘ * Towering Inferno, ’ ’
well I had my disaster.
I had two face lifts and
three fell......THOMAS
WOOODS, all the enter
tainers agreed deserved
his award “Sound
Effects’’, since he has
been a part of the
Academy Of Imper
sonating Arts along time
and spent many hours
working with these per
formers. International
ly known ROSKI
FERNANDES, was the
winner of “Director
of the Year” and DAISY
DALTON walked off with
‘ ‘ Supporting Actress. ’ ’
The both were highlights
of the nite. The “Cecil
B. De Mille Award” is
given each year to one
who has contributed
most to the Academy Of
Impersonating Arts or
the gay community. This
year the winner was
BILLY JONES, who in
troduced the imperson
ating arts to the Atlanta
stage, brought to
Peachtree Street the
longest running night
club act, “BILLY AND
THE BEAUTIFUL
BOYS” at Club'Centaur,
and is still active in •
show biz.' He is ad
vertising director of
’THE BARB .
Yes, it was a grand
nite and I thank each
of you who received or
was nominated for the
CAMP OSCARS... you
were good sports.
Thanks to MR JIM
NALLEY for his support
and the ONYX staff
who made this 7th
ATLANTA. OSCARS
possible. SHIRLEY
TEMPLE HONES wants
to thank the beautiful
boy VICTOR STEWART,
who assisted in “Poopo
A Dpp” and said if the
“Good Ship Lolly Pop”
goes down...Lets go
down together... It is
a night that will go long
remembered and as the
night that OSCAR REAL
LY INVADED THE
ONYX.
THE HOTTEST THING
IN TOWN, not meaning
to overlook * ‘HOT
CHOCKLATE,” was the
burning of the CABA
RET AFTER DARK. We
were all just crushed
to think that it could
happen her in our gay
HOTLANTA, I was there
and I tell you it was some
fire, and hope they do
find out “who done it.”
RON LARSON, the
owner from California
was arrested with $17,
of PLAY MONEY he was
playing with., and he
seemed like such a nice
fellow., it makes you
wonder, don’t it.
The most exciting
contest in these parts
is the Clark Productions
“MISS GAY ATLANTA
PAGENT,” which will
be held this May 15th,
Thursday nite at 9 p.m.
BUDDY CLARK tells me
this will be a nite to
remember when “A
Space Osdessy ’ ’ hits the
stage at the Sweet Gum
Head. Many new con
testants have signed up
and it is bound to be out
of this world, if its like
any of the other pagents.
SHAWN, the now reign
ing MISS ATLANTA,
will be a hard act to
follow, she certainly
lived up to the part,
charming and beautiful
and in every way won
derful lady.
Speaking of BUDDY
CLARK and acts that
are hard to follow, well,
hid “Della in con
cert” that he did at
the Apollo Club is just
that ... He really off,
Jimmy and Ernie, to
gether they really had
one hot show. And the
APOLLO audience
really loved them.
There’s no biz like drag
biz or DANNY WINSOR
was never- greater the
way he was at the Metro-
p o 1 i t a n Community
Church benefit this
month, “I NEVER WAS
A BROAD.” Danny
dances and sings as if
he just left the M.G.M.
and keeps a fast moving
show. Daisy Dalton,
Mickey Martin and two
very talented dances
Reverend John Gill and
Art Cazault really made
me and the crowd there
glad we came......I had
been through the Park
and was just thrilled
to find one of our pas
COVER BOYS there and
we just had a grand
time, at the show and
after the show too....
Thanks, Danny I used
your name to get him
in the car! You both
were just great.
MAMA DEE from
Pensacola Florida is in
town and has opened up
the old STING at the
Peachtree Battle Shopp
ing Cehter. The place
has gotten . off to a good
swing and the new name
