lbs. is married and has one child.
Pat placed third in the Mr.
America contest. He won first
place in the small mens division.
Had his calves been better, many
judges agreed that he would have
won the Mr. America contest.
The former powerlifting cham
pion and 1974 Mr. U. S. A. easily
had the best developed upper
body in the contest.
The strongest highlight on his
development is his enormous
chest size. Over 50” in size his
work-outs include a 470 lbs.
bench press and can do regular
reps (number of times performed
during one exercise) of 7 to 8 with
three hundred and fifteen lbs.
When asked about hi§ great
chest development, Pat replies,
‘‘I feel the best chest exercises
are flies, dips and pullovers.
“Since dong my routine. I've

which 1 would describe to be
more definition type. Since it
includes as a warm-up of 15 reps-

doing 8 reps. That is his bench
press routine. For the incline
press, (upper chest) does 5 sets
starting with 1-15 reps-135 lbs. 2-
15 reps with 185 lbs. 3-12 reps-
205 lbs. 4-10 reps. 225 lbs. and 5-

dips., (up and down movement on
holding on to two bars that are
bolted on the wall).
Finally 6 sets of 10 reps, using
.85 lbs (dumbell) in his “pull-over
routine. (Movement which in
volves using a dumbell and when
lying on a bench, flat, proceed to
move your arms over hour head
till you can touch the floor. This
stretches the rib-cage and brings
out great depth in the chest
structure.).Small things do come

Dear Rod;
I started my diet a few days ago
before I talked to you about
exercising. I have cut out desserts
and am at present only eating 2
meals a day. A good breakfast
and then a mild lunch and no
supper.Before my main meal of
the day was supper; which of
course is the worst thing to do. I
have lost about 3 lbs. so far (one
week), The workouts should help
die weight loss as time passes. I
am also going over the diet books
that you recommended. A few
questions; On the buttocks lunge-
am I to do 20 each (that is 20 left
and twenty right) for a total of 40?
Should I do all 20 for each side
and then the other or can I do left,
right, left, right for 40 counts?
Can sit-ups and leg-ups be
done every day? When doing the
deltoid, barbell exercises, should
the back be kept as straight as
possible, or is the back to be used
a little? How slow should each
exercise be performed?
Errol
Dear Errol,
The workouts will certainly
help your weight loss as long as
you are properly dieting. As far as
your buttocks are concerned, It
doesn’t matter how you perform

them. Whether it’s doing 20 reps,
with one leg, and switching over
to the other, or alternating each
leg when doing the buttock
exercise. Sit-ups and leg-ups can
be done every day. This isn’t a
^weight-lifting exercise, because
of this there shouldn’t be any
problem.
To gain more bulk for the
Deltoid (part of shoulder muscle)
and barbell exercises (general
sRoufiler^exereise)^ ybiT should
cheat (arch the black when lif
ting), if doing a definition
exercise for your shoulders, strict
movement on the shoulder area
must be applied. Also the slower
you do the exercise, the more
•concentrated action on the musde
will result. This will give you
more Definition and also a better
looking physique.
Dear Rod,
It is true that weight-lifting will
give you a big muscular ap
pearance? If so, what can ! do to
just keep my body solid but not
big, only trim.
Ed
Dear Ed,
Not necessarily so, depending
on the kind of exercises you do
Mil depend on the apprearance
you’ll receive. If you go into
heavy lifting, than you’ll get a
bulkier physique, If you go into
light lifting, you will achieve a
well defmed solid physique.
Using lighter weights and high
reps, can certainly give you a
trim but solid appearance.
