TENNESSEE TALES
'By Larry Foster & Kathy
Bonjour, Buenos dias and
howdy y’all, the Volunteer State
has really been hot this past
month, so let’s get it on...the.
news, I mean.
First let me apologize for last
month’s column. Part of the
Knoxville column was under the
Memphis heading and got kinda
confusing. The fault lies
somewhere further down the
long line to printing, for things
were in order when I put them on
paper.
Also, no fault of my own the
first three contestants in the
Miss Gay Tennessee Pageant
were not mentioned. Somehow
the names of Angela Sanders of
Knoxville, Meradith Hutton and
Christine both of Memphis
weren’t in the column. These
girls worked as hard and did just
as well as the others and the
neglect was certainly unin
tentional.
KNOXVILLE
The Europa Club is constantly
making improvements to their
already marvelous dub.
Their have built a full-length
mirrored wall in front of the.
deejay stand with an arch cut out
of the middle only to reveal the
always glimmering face of Missy
Brown. Now all you ill queens
can get engrossed with your
selves wh ile you’re dancing.
Mr. Kershner has put in a new
game room with plenty of en
tertaining machines for the'
sports minded person.
Also, now, whenever you get
the munchies, Europa serves hot
meat sandwiches and Bobby
Terry says it’s the best hot meal
in town.
Last month I mentioned the
fantastic sound system at
Europa, well after talking to Bobi
Collingnon, who helped design
the system, I found out there are
68 speakers which together
produce one of the best systems
in the South.
Europa’s go-go persons are'
always telling me they get no,
recognition, so kids, here we go-
go with Europa’s go-
goers...Rob, Tim, Mike, Jim,
Jackie, Debbie, William and
Jimmy dance their way into your
hearts Wednesday-Sunday &('
Europa.
Europa’s plans for the future
are top secret but I’ve been told
they will soon start having shows
cm a semi-regular basis featuring
the fantastic Jimmy Dee!
Does anyone at Europa really
know what a Gambit is? Rick
Smith knows.
The Carousel Club has really
been jumpin’. Jamie Chambers
has been bringing in top notch
out-of-town boys. This only adds
to oodles of beautiful boys and
men who are always at The
Carousel.’
Some of the talent Jamie has
brought in are such stars as Dee-
Dee, my good friend Billie
Personality of the Month
JAMIE CHAMBERS
Our spotlight performer for
March is the newly crowned
Miss Gay Tennessee, Jamie
Chambers.
Jamie is the reason the
Carousel II is in existence. For
without her and her intense
knowledge of gay people,
Knoxville might never have
experienced the remarkable
shows presented every weekend
in “JAMIE CHAMBERS
EVENING OF EN
TERTAINMENT.” Jamie was
the first person to really bring
entertainment to Knoxville.
After doing shows for sometime
with Lynn Fontaine at the
Hideaway Lounge, Lynn left the
shows and Jamie took th em over.
Along with Daffodil Murphy,
Arlene Davis and a host of
others, Jamie continued the
shows.
But the Hideaway was not in
the best part of town (to put it
mildly), so Jamie went to Chuck
the owner of the Carousel and
convinced him to buy out the
red-neck bar upstairs and turn it
into a show bar. Thus, the
Carousel II was born.

Wedding bells are in 'the
Knoxville air. From what I’m
told, Rob and Gary are planning
to wed soon. Wonder which is;
the bride to be?
My ever-listening ears have
also heard that the Miss Gay
Knoxville Pageant is to be next
month at the Hyatt Regency.
Everyone is looking forward to
this gay-la event.
MEMPHIS
Marlow, Lynnie LaToker and.
from the Powder Puff in
Chattanooga, Mickey Martin.
Rumor has it Jamie will soon be
taking her entire show down to
die Powder Puff and Roski
Fernadez will in turn bring her
show up toVhe Carousel. We’re
all excited about this temporary
swap!
You never know who your
Jamie is probably best known
for her performance of “You and
Me Against the World’’ (the
number which helped her win,
the Jiss Gay Tennessee title).
This, of course, is by no means
the only song she does so well.
Jamie handles each number with
such expertise one would think
that she was born on stage.
, A present member of her cast,
remembers a younger Jamie
Chambers:
“Jamie has always gone after
the boys. In high school he was
manager of the football team and
could always be seen in the
showers distributing towels.
Jamie was always very popular
but we never really got along in
school. I though Jamie was a
queer! Look at us now, the
closest of friends and both doing
shows!”
Jamie Chambers, Miss Gay
Tennessee, is truly a queen in
every sense of the word.
Knoxville is proud to call her it’s
own.
deejay will be at the Carousel I
disco. ’ One night it might be
Eddie Lyons, another night it
might be Joel, Jackie, Jackson or
even Chuck. But no matter
who’s spinning the platters and
the music is always great and is
in beat with, the hottest disco
floor in the South.
Behind the bar Harold Glass,
James Hoskins or Paul will be
glad to serve.youin almost any
way. Oh yes, don’t forget
Jackson Long’s back as bar
tender. The Carousel just wasn’t
?!
Memphis has a new bar, ’the
Tango Palace has reopened and
is even better than before.
Business seems to be on the rise.
If it rises much piore, they'll
have to tear down the walls to
accommodate all the people.
The Body Shop and thePysche-
Out have also been doing great.
George’s Theatre and Lounge
always has a huge crowd and
bigger and better. shows each
week.
Unfortunately we didii’t get to
