Robert Bbine’s
HOUSTON
Things are really getting
into full swing right now in this
corner of Texas. What with the
new bars opening, lots of new
items being added, and
remodelings taking place, added
to a lot of new faces from all over
the place popping up
everywh ere, it looks as if this will
be an interesting summer for
sure.
langiers, the newest disco in
town is really something. Talk
about glitter. Sunglasses are
reccomended, or at least haul out
your photo-greys. It’s also a
relief to be able to get out of the
Montrose occassionally and see
what kind of swinging takes
place out there in the rest of the
world.
Also, the Depository’s new
light show is something to see,
so if you haven’t been down
there in a bit. better hustle.
Dirty Sally's is now Sally’s.
If you’re wondering where the
dirt went, it didn’t. The real
answer to that is across the
street to the Second Sun, which
is now Dirty Sally’s Second Sun
(after a bit of remodeling). No
one yet has been able to explain
to me what in hell is going on,
but then again, no one probable
knows.
Ibe big Reach Party in
Galveston at Stewart Beach
sponsored by the Old Plantation
and Dirty Sally'sSecondSun was
a huge success. Air awful lot of
people turned out for a really
fine day in the sun. Meanwhile,
back in Houston, lots of people
were turned out to watch all the
hippies have their fun a the
Montrose Block Party. Things
got a bit wild after the sun went
down, but basically everyone
was left alone to do just what
they wanted to do.
In the world of politics, GPC
will not hold any more meetings
until September when things will
be in full swing for the
November elections. GPC also
wants to welcome to the fold the
Dallas Gay Political Caucus
which isjust starting up.
In other items of interest, the
Texas Gay Conference III will be
held in Houston during June
at the University of Houston.
Speakers will include Jean
O’Leary, National Legislative
Coordinator for the National Gay
Task Force and a delegate to the
Democratic National
Convention, along with Russo
Vito, author and film critic.
The Conference will also
recognize State Representative
Greg Washington for his
outstanding work the past year
in Austin, and a few special
arranged by drummer Greg
Diamond is a strong Disco set
sounding Funky and
Professional. Check-out these
DISCONNECTION
people will be honored with the
distinctive “Honorary
Homosexual" award which has
of course come to be most
coveted among those in the*
straight population.
Houston’s Gary Van
Ooteghem leaves soon for a
meeting of the National Gay
Task Force. Gary’s been doing
lots of travelling lately. He just
spent time up in Dallas helping
them get their own GPC going,
and GOD only knows when heu
be off again.
If you're into volleyball, and
who isn’t, check out the scene at
Cherryhurst park on Tuesday
evenings at 7:00. They’ll
welcome anyone, so don’t be
shy, just get in there and bat a
few balls around.
That’s about it for now, see
ya around.

RADIO BROUGHT MUSIC
TO PEOPLE, THE DISCO HAS
BROUGHT PEOPLE TO MUSIC.
Probably, the biggest factor
invloved is the SOUND
SYSTEM. We’ve come a long
way from RECORD PLAYERS
AND 78’S TO COMPONENT
SYSTEMS and DICRETE 4-
CHANNEL SOUND..
Unfortunately, most of us can’t
afford the luxory of an expensive
component system, so we settle
for the quality in sound, that we
can afford. Fortunately, most of
us can afford the ooverdiarge at
our favorite club. By the way,
3 uality in sound reproduction
epends on a number of factors.
Besides the cost and size (of your
equipment), the quality relates
to the engineering of the cut, and
the care you give your personal
collection. VOLUME, has
nothing to do with quality!
WHAT IS DISCO? DISCO
music is characterized by a
steady Rhythm and Driving
Beat. All DISCO music fits into a
metronomic range of 108 to 126
cycles per minute. It’s basically
Rhythm and Blues enhanced by
Latin and Symphonic Sounds.
Strings, Homs, and Cymbals are
a vital part of the DISCO sound.
DISCO’S not only MUSIC - and
not only a LIFESTYLE • like
’’ LIVIN’ FOR THE
WEEKEND”. So, WHAT IS
DISCO? DISCO IS THE
ESCAPE OF THE SEVENTIES
THE SOCIAL ALTERNATIVE
TO THE CLOSETS OF OUR
PAST!
"Try Me, I Know, We Can
Make It’’ is Donna Summer’s
"Love Trilogy’’. It’s actually an
eighteen minute affair with her,
or whom ever you might be
involved with...while enjoying
her...Donna doesn’t let you
down...Her "Prelude to Love” is
like foreplay...as she sets the
mood for her climax "Could it
BE Magic” written and
previously recorded by Barry
Manilow. She expresses
exhaustion in “Wasted”...then
Inexhaustibly is ready to go
again with "Come With Me”.
To keep It up...AH Donna needs
is another lover, like..."A LOVE

MUSCLES! The Muscle Shoals
Horns’ ’’BORN TO GET

average DISCO LP. They "Mess
Around” featuring four Alabama
HORN players that "Break
Down” and "Hustle to the
Music”.
One of the most versatile
young artists, Maxine
Nightingale, has probably the'
HIT single of the year - "Right
Back Where We Started From” *
and it’s now a great album.
Maxine expresses an appeal to
just about everyone. She’s
aware that although she has a
DISCO hit, DISCO’S not the only
kind of music, nor the only music
audiences’ enjoy. From Ballads
to Blues, MS. Nightingale's got
Soul.

keeping Joe’s/Backstreet one of
the TOP club’s in town.

Funky DISCO from Hamilton
Bohannon with "Dance Your Ass
Off”. He uses some strings but
stays away from the slick DISCO
SOUND. Heavy Rhythm is
featured on all the cuts, and even
a little Jazz. Enjoy the Title song
along with "Trying to be Slick”,
"Party People” and "Spread the
Groove Around”.
Crown Heights Affair
features one side straight (I hate
to use that term) DISCO on their
"Dreaming A Dream”, with
tight productions and
arrangements on the Title cut
and “Foxy Lady”. The flip side
is close to straight (Oh well) Soul
with a good version of “Every
Beat Of My Heart”.
Cashing in on her FILM
background? Andrea True has
sure cashed in with "More,
More, More”, the album
"Keep it UP Longer”,
JP”, and "Party
cuts:
"Fill Me
Line”.
A rush release of Tavares’
"Sky High” album, includes
their smash Disco hit "Heaven
Must Be Missing An Angel”.
They’re five Brothers that get
into some complicated vocal
arrangements and switch off on
the LEAD vocals. They’ve come
up with a good assortment of
Rockers and Ballads, with
effective UP-TEMPO material
like "The Mighty Power Of
Love” and "Don’t Take Away
the Music”.
To wrap-up our album
review, we’d like to comment on
"Never Gonna Let You Go", the
exciting Album from Vicki Sue

like her album notes point out -
she’s “Moody, overly sensitive,
