“Hot’s Combo”
Showbar, with a dynomite
disco that’s even “hotter”.
Robbie Tee, Hot’s
resident D. J., appears to
have everything well in
hand! Robbie has worked at
Union Station, Mother’s, and
the Night Club. He has been
with HOT since they opened,
and is assisted by Nicole, a
lovely addition to any disco.
Nicole, better known as
Kathy, can be found ther just
about any night; She was
also spinning a few discs at
the Hotel Marriott, before
the HOT. Another
“HOLLYWOOD HOT”
combination! The most
popular tunes being played
are "Party Line”* by Andrea
True Connection, “Shake
your Booty”, K. C. & the
Sunshine Band, and of
course an older hit,
“Hollywood Hot”, by the
11th Hour. Robbie Tee has a
dynomite mix he calls “Turn
the Beat Around”, using
Vicki Sue Robinson’s number
one song, along with Donna
Summer’s “Come With
Me”. Check it out! Don’t
for the coming year at the
Consumer Electronics Show’
in Chicago.
In addition to the myriad
new products offered for
home & car, we witnessed a
“Disco-explosion” of new
equipment aimed at the
Disco industry by such
manufacturers as ESS, Altec,
Bozak, Meteor Light &
Sound, Dynaco, JBL, SAE,
Stanton, Technics, Sony and
many others. Competition
always results in better
products, so go to it, fellas!
In future issues we hope to
spotlight & review some of
the new equipment being
made available in hopes of
promoting better sound in
our clubs. If you have any
equipment you’d like to see
reviewed, let us know.

United States. They wanted
to know about every sexual
incident on the ship. I
remembered the incident
that happened in San Diego
Harbor on the CM level. I
told them everything. The
men told me I could go
before a board of officers and
state my defense. As this
involved removing men from
the ship, I chose to simply
type my story. Did I make a
mistake? Maybe.
It was a cold January day
when I walked to the peir to
take one last look at my old
ship. But the Parsons was
not there. The ship was
steaming to a new Japanese
port. The peir was empty of
any vessel. With many Navy
personnel I flew over the
deep Pacific to Midway
Island. I saw the gooney
birds. Next, I saw San
Francisco. Here they put me
in the brig. I left Treasure
Island with my Undesirable
Discharge. Home in Boston I

“Lefty” of the Poop Deck in
Fort Lauderdale and Keith
Landon of Keith’s Cruise

you’re in Tampa stop by the

the June issue I warned
readers about a rip-off
company by the name of the
Odyssey Club. Someone
wrote and told me of a bad
experience with a firm called
K.R. Enterprises, who in
cidentally, advertise with the
BARB. I might add here that
this newspaper cannot be
responsible for actions of
their advertisers although I
am sure Bill Smith and staff
try only to deal with the most
reliable firms. It’s probably
messenger.
Maybe it all seems a little
sad, but I feel we have a

will have the last laugh.

Believe it or not, sometimes
it’s over five feet away, great

FOLLOWING THE
CONFERENCE Fr. O’Neill
wrote Brian MC Naught
“Our national board is
indebted to you for ar
ticulating sp well the initial
statement from our con
ference. More than aiding us
as a writer, you have quickly
moved us along the needed
path of focusing our own role
and becoming clearer as to
positive growth experience
men I would be all for it. I
wish it was not even an issue
but then I can’t rewrite
history. I want people to
become comfortable with
their own bodies and those of
others and anything that
seems to hold a potential for
experiential growth in this
direction is a part of
my therapy.
B: Some people tend to
become dependent on their
therapist and the therapy
milieu. How do you view 1
this?
S: With disdain. I would at
least want to see people
become dependent on
somone who didn’t charge!
Early on I would encourage
persons to plan to work tor
their own mental and
emotional independence
from both me an tne therapy
situation. Once they can take
me or leave me, I will feel
they are in charge of their
own lives in this aspect. I
want people to become
conscious of their alienation
from themselves and others
and to get in touch with their
oppression. My idea of a
good therapeutic relationship
is one in which all parties are
similarly caring and sharing
in the way they relate to each
other.
Is the ability to do therapy
something only possessed by
a few?
S: I believe most people can
do therapy and in fact do it
without recognizing it as
such. I’m not much for our
over-credential ized elitist
approach so prevalent today.
Some of the best therapy is
being done by people without
degrees but with plenty of
caring and sharing. Gay
people are so beautiful that 1
want to help people uncover;
their beauty and release then*
tremendous untapped
potential for human growth.
As gays I want to see us work
to remove labels, especially
those pertaining to ageist
concepts and sexual en
dowment.
B: You come from a political
background having done
lobbying at all levels of
government in both the
legislative and executive
branches. Tell us about the
politics of therapy as you see
it.
B: Will you have some
exclusively gay groups?
S: Very definitely . Gays can
work wonders in groups once
foe caring and snaring,
which takes trust, is
prevalent. Gays have a
unique sensitivity and sense
of perception when it comes
to human relations. Get a
group of gays together and
you have a potential for
tremendous growth once
caring and sharing per
meates the group.
B: What type of groups will
you likely be using?
S: I like support groups,
contractual problem-solving
groups where each person
presents a fairly specific
problem and contracts; with
the group to work on solving
it. Encounter approaches
will have their place too, but
I find continuous con
frontations can be both
alienating and oppressive.
S: A
therapy group is a powerful
political force. In a group
people begin to realize that
every thing they do is
political. Traditional therapy
uses the adjustment ap
proach coupled with tne
sickness theory: that in
dividuals are out of kilter and
must have their behavior
adjusted to comform to the
whims of society. Society
thus uses its various in
stitutions going from the
family at one end of the
spectruifc to the military at
tne other to enforce the
dictates of the ruling class
then in power. Significant
instruments for ^ociiu control
are fear and guilt. Gay
people know this only too
well. When persons in
therapy begin to sense this
they begin to get in touch
with their power. Therapy is
powerful. To begin to un
derstand the politics of
therapy is to begin to un
derstand life.
B: As an alternative
therapist how will you handle
fees?
B: Do you consider yourself
uniquely qualified to do
therapy?
•S: Groups will be figured at
$35 per month in advance for
weekly sessions; individual
therapy will be $15 per
session in advance. Where
barter can be arrange this
method of compensation will
also be used.
