Disconnection

Dear Jeannie:
I read your problem
section all the time. My
problem is that I’m a very
lonely 23-year-old man. I
live with my parents and
don’t have much contact with
men or women. I can swing
both ways, but I prefer men.
1 enjoy light S&M and B&D
as well as other things of free
will.
I have answered ads in
the classified section but
received no replies. I live in
the suburbs and Don’t think
people care to travel so far. 1
can’t do much travelling due
to my job and college. Please
help me.
Michael
Dear Michael:
If answereing ads hasn’t
turned a trick', why not run
one yourself? Or attend
some of the functions at the
Metropolitan Community
Church in your area.
Relationships formed in such
an environment are
frequently more stable than
those begun in bars, baths
and personal ads...MCCers
have more than one reason !
for getting down on their
knees!
Dear Jeannie:
I was wondering if you |
could give me the
background behind the!
Lambda symbol and its;
relation to gay society, t
Thanks.
Tom
Dear Tom:
Lambda, the 11th letter of
the Greek alphabet, was long
used as a symbol of unity in
the face of oppression. Thus
it was only logical that Gay
Activists Alliance/New York
adopted it as a symbol of gay
unity in the face of non-gay
oppression. Today, it has a
wider application: as a
proclamation, of one’s
gayness and a means of
identifying one’s gay
brothers and sisters. A
friend, who always wears his
Lambda button, was asked
by a non-gay business
associate if it indicated his
membership - in. a Greek
organization. ‘‘You might
say that,” he replied.
Dear Jeannie:
What are the symptoms
of rectal gonorrhea? Are
there any at all? If one
•contracts it in the penis and
unknowingly has it in the
rectum, will treatment for
one automatically cure the
other?
A1
Dear Al:
Rectal gonorrhea is
virtually undetectable except
through laboratory analysis
of rectal smears. Penicillin,
the usqsal form of treatment,
should take care of
gonorrhea whether con
tracted in the rectum or the
penis. Unfortunately, it is
the absence of simple
symptoms which often leads
one to go untreated, thereby
resulting in advanced and
dangerous complications.
This' is just one more good
reason for people to nave
regular, thorough VD
checks. Sharing with friends
is a good thing...but not in
this case!
Dear Jeannie:
I was just reading the gay
paper and I suppose you
can’t help me, but I felt like
writing anyway. My girl that
I lived with and loved very
much for nine years died a
couple of years ago, and
since we never really went
out, 1 don’t know
anyone...especially here, in a
rather remote area.
Although I go to bars oc
casionally, they seem to
depress me, and I cannot
find a nice girl. Most are
very young, on pot, etc.
I am 40 years old, not too
bad-looking, am clean cut
and have my own apartment
and a steady job.
I like the simple things in
life, and l.guess I’m basically
shy and a loner. I don’t
really like groups. 1 enjoy
parties now and then with
friends, but I don’t think I
could go join groups and
really get “involved” to
meet people. I guess that
sounds dumb, because 1
suppose that’s the only way
to meet people...but if you
have any other suggestions,
I’d like to hear them.
Jean
Dear Jean:
You’re right; getting out
is the only way to meet
people. Of course, there are
degrees of “involvement”,
and you needn’t turn over
your life to any group. As
with Michael (above), I’d
•suggest MCC or one of the
local Lesbian groups. Try it
at least a time or two. And
because other people, too,
Their story began way
back in 1962, but now, in
1976, the legend goes on.
Although the Supremes’
glamorous image remains
untarnished, they have
proceeded onward to
conquer greater musical
horizons, and have remained
as freshly vital as any current
act can be. Although there
have been the inevitable
personnel changes over the
years, the Supremes are still
living up to tnier name. The
highlight of the trio’s fifteen
year evolutionary career is
their appropriately titled
current album, “High
Energy ’ ’. Under the guiding
genius of Eddie & Brian
Holland (who produced the
group’s first hits), the
Supremes embark on a
dizzying musical journey that
captures their true creative
spirit.
“High energy” opens
with Susaye Green leading
the title song. Her incredible
four octave range soars
magnificently unrestrained
over the elaborate or
chestration, and provides
some stunning vocal music.
Susaye also hits some
breathtaking heights on the
popular disco smash,
“Gonna Let My Heart Do the
Walking”, which is led by
the soulful wailing of
Scherrie Payne. Obviously
the Supremes’ strongest
asset, Scnerrie is dynamo of
the highest caliber... a
sometimes tend to be shy,
you might have to make the
first move toward being
friendly. Again, you must
put yourself in a position to
meet people if you want to
meet people. Believe me,
nobody is going to knock on
your door and announce
“Hoo! Have I got a girl for
you!”

JEST ACROSS THE STREET FROM HOLLYWOOD HOT
woman with a most creative
and compelling sound, and a
powerhouse of vocal
strength. “Only You”, and
“You Keep Me Moving On”
are also charged with some
dangerously nigh voltage,
both offerings by Scherrie at
her funkiest.
Side two features senior
Supreme Mary Wilson, the
group’s original member,
who proves to be a distinctive
lyrical interpreter.
Especially adept at soft,
sensuous ballads, Mary
caresses these songs with an
irresistable warmth and
emotional depth that would
melt the coldest heart.
“Don’t Let My Teardrops
Bother You” is a Wilson
masterpiece, having a
directness and surging
sensitivity that any other
song stylist would find
difficult to match. ‘‘Till The
Boat Sails Away” follows
this same precedent, and the
album closes with the
alternating leads of Mary &
Scherrie on “You’re What’s
Missing”, another happy,
discq tune with a charm all
its own.
The Supremes have never
been “just another singing
group”. They are a rare
combination of gifted in
dividuals, who are musical
instruments in themselves.
And “High Energy” is not
merely a collection of songs
on an album. It is a very
personal gift from Mary,
Susaye, and Scherrie to the
public, that gives an intimate
insight into the various facets
of our human spectrum. And
that, after all, is a supreme
triumph.
The Atlanta Soul
Disco sound originates on
West Peachtree, from an
open disco desk inside a
comfortable little club called
R.J.’s. Their popularity is
growing for a number of
reasons. Besides being a
friendly lounge, their disc
jockeys, Gil -n- Phillip, along
with their announcer, Stan;
are out to play what you want
to hear. Thdy take requests
each night and to top it off
they even throw in a few slow
numbers, for the folk that
still enjoy body contact. The
top tunes bieng played are:
“Shake Your Booty”, “Disco

Partyand “Ten Per
Cent”. Among the most
requested: “Jump”, “the
Huddle”, “Porcupine”, and
“Flowers”. Gil wants to add
his Pick Hit * “Rubberband
Man”, a new and delightful
sound from the Spinners. In
dosing, Danyle, the manager
at R.J.’s would like to extend
an open invitation to one and
all.
