October 1976, THE BARB 6
•■ram ATLANTA
Hi Toots, Labor Day,
oh, Labor Day, what a day.
I’m glad every day isn’t
Labor Day. Mine started
with a smile and ended up
soused... Getting over it was
not as much fun as getting
into it. I started* * the
festivities at STEPHEN’S
SALOON, where I joined
die MICKEY MOUSE
CLUB. Now, that really
calls for a celebration,
cause it is not every day
that PHYLLIS becomes a
Mouseketeer. Since I lost
ny husband to the mighty
mouse I thought I’d join
up. At the photo session
there, two new recruits
joined us. We then joined
the crowd at Frank Powell’s
COUNTY SEAT, just in
time to miss the mob who
had enjoyed his fabulous
feast, I just love the cast of
thousands food or not...that
is food enough for me.
Bud and Mike, adjusted our
new ears and headed for
IW.CKSTREET...their Labor
Day Barbecue was still on
aid we joined in that and
while sipping checked our
tickets during the
drawing... lots of winners
but with my luck, I didn’t
expect to win and felt lucky
to get out without falling
off my heels.
Last month was pretty
busy in the clubs and here
are some of the highlights
that I noted, knowing you’d
love to hear about them if
wu missed ’em.
MR.
BACKSTREET. ..The
Contest, the contestants,
aid the guest performers
were just great...It was
smooth running, exciting,
You could say a staf :
tfudded event;..Harry, and
Jimmy Dee, Margaret, and
the Dixie Cups...with
JIMMY DEE* MARGARET
AND THE DIXIE CUPS
performing...Miss Gay
Atlanta, LISA KING did a
guest spot and one of the
contestants, Ted
Stephenson, as part of his
talent, did a sketch of a
famous star and ROXANNE
RUSSELL burst the drawing
as Marilyn Monroe and
brought down the
house...Tommy Toussant,
who is known for his great
talent in these Southern
parts was the winner and
crowned MR.
BACKSTREET 1976.
Darling boy, DOUG WOOD
Club Hollywood was
first runner-up and DANNY
ITTELPS, sponsored by
CRUISE magazine was
third runner-up. There was*
much talent shown on stage
that night and I was
pleased to see that most of
the audience agreed with
the judges...I was just
thrilled to escort LADY
BARONESSA to the stage
to say hell-o and do a
special number. The
former MISS GAY
AMERICA, is so beautiful
and poised no wonder she
is such a star and invited
d\ over the country to
perform and emcee so
many contests... Fantastic
JIMMY DEE is now show
drector at the EUROPA in
Knoxville where they have
diows each Wednesday and
Sunday... “Come up and
see her sometime”.
HOLLYWOOD HOT was
really hot, the sensational,
“Last Goddess” ROXANNE
RUSSELL, appeared there
in concert die 14th...Ms.
RUSSELL who is cnrrentlv
appearing at Miami’s
fbuntainebleau Hotel was
just too much...Her per
formance runs the gauntlet
of emotion, displaying not
only her flair for pantomine
be here October 5th.
Queen of all Glamour,
DIAMOND LIL, whose
“September Song” was
really LIL at her best, will
be at the Hollywood each
come out, bring your talent
or just a friend, maybe
meet one there...It’s nice to
see their Shady Lady
DAISY DALTON is back in
town after her bi-cen-ten

but for true acting ability.
She was joined on stage for
one number with, Miss
Tampa, GILDA GOLDEN,
“One Less Bell To
Answer” and received a
standing ovation.
ROXANNE’S version of
MM has won her much
acclaim, and once on stage,
one can see why...but
somehow there never seems
to be enough to please a
cheering audience...she is
just a marvel.
MICHAEL ST
LAURENT, the veiy ver
satile talent also in the
FountaineMeaii Review will
Sunday...and because of all
the fan they had at the
MR. BUNS contest, it will
be held again each month.
Their final talent contest
was held last week and the
winner was none other than
“Miss ONYX”, Vonda De
lane. The new talent
contest will start each
Thursday and this time
round, will be held on an
amateur contest basis...this
will bring out new talen-
t...good or bad, but at least
new... GILDA GOLDEN
stages the contest in a way
that winner or loser leaves
feeling like a star. So
bit in old Boston, where
die raised many a Yankee
eyebrow plus attending
more than one “T” party!
Also back on the scene
there is one of my favorite
bartenders, SANDY.
Seems she went on a “T
PARTY” of her own. Just
Celebrating!
The SWEET GUM
HEAD, has RACHEL back,
this time as a regular
member of the cast...where
she is proving to be just as
popular as ever. There is
just no stopping LAVITA
ALLEN, and DINA JACOBS
when it comes to comedy
and there they have more
glamour than most clubs
have all season with, MISS
GAY ATLANTA LISA
KING, LADY SHAWN and
SATAN DE VILLE, not to
mention the new talents of
HEATHER FONTAINE.
There they had a very busy
last month and this month
will feature the entire cast
in special acts of their own.
You out of towners,
vacations may be over but
you must find time to visit
and see why it is called the
SIOW PLACE OF THE
SOUTH.
Not to be overlooked is
the ONYX LOUNGE where
their shows are Wednesday
thru Sunday with Roski
Ibmandes and MICKEY
DAY. Roski and het
International Review had
just returned from Tampa
where they opened the new
club El Goya Last month
foe ONYX held the Mr.
GAY TEENAGER pageant
and winning that was,
Dempsey Dixon, Pat Wright
and David Nichols. THERE
wrere some mighty hunky
lumbers there and many a
heart was sent fluttering.
DRAG IN REVERSE, will
be coming up soon there,,
so all you females here’s
your chance to strut yout
stuff as a MAN...see Roski
or Mickey for
details.. .Thursday is
Auction nite, and their
Talent Nite is
Tuesdays... On the 27th,
die ONYX will feature
TACKY NITE...these have
been great fan and I’d love
to see the winner as the old
PHYLLIS... Cause Honey,
there were some days when
I really had my hair
together!
OTHER COIN’S ON
...MANHATTAN YELLOW
PAGES, a must, is making

MS. GARBO’S, under
