I Editor’s Notebook
The Georgia General
Assembly goes into
session in January.
Once again the sodomy
statute will be up for
revision. Maybe this
time?
One third of the
states have
decriminajized con-
consentual sodomy.
Arkansas is the only
southern state to have
done so. Georgia could
be next. The Atlanta
Gay Pride Alliance is
spear heading the
drive.
More legislators
than ever before have
stated publicly that
they would support
decriminalization of
consentual sodomy.
Well respected mem
bers of the Fulton
County Delegates such
as Reps. Sidney Mar-
cuss CD) and John
Greer (D) are sup-
portative. The election
of Mike Nichols in the
27th district, a rather
conservantly regarded
district; has made
many aware of the ‘gay
vote.
The Criminal Justice
Study Committee has
recommended life
decriminalization of
consentual sodomy, (see
story on page 1) The
committee's
recomendations are
often followed in the
legislature.
Writing letters to
your state Reps, and
state Senate may seem
like an insignificant
thing. It isn’t. The
legislators are ready,

the CJSC recomen-
dations are timely and
a great boost to the
decriminalization ef
fort. A few letters can 1
make the difference.
Write to your Reps,
eyer jf it is Mike
Nichols - legislators
with pro or con are
influenced by your
comments. Your letter
may make the difr
ferehce. Write to your
reps, even if it is Mike
Nichols-legislators with
f >ro or con are in-
uenced by your
comments. Your letter
may make the dif
ference in a close vote!
I sometimes wonder if
anyone reads this column.
Staff and volunteers have never
suggested dropping It. It
would be a rather difficult
thing for a staff person or
volunteer to suggest cutting
the "Editor's Notebook” when
space problems arise. If you
have a comment on this or on
any of our other columns
please feel free to write to us.
Letters to the editor are always
welcome.
Odds and Ends
According to Robin
Sloan’s syndicated
column, everyone is
worrying about a
celebrity marriage
because the bride is
seeing too much of
another man. What has
been overlooked in all
this fretting is that the
oride prefers girls and
jthe groom has been

that the famous
playwright was gay. No
surprise to anyone who
knew Coward, although
he was quite
discreet(but never
denied his
homosexuality.) Was
Sebastian, the Catholic
Martyr, gav? That is
the theory of the official
British entry to the
International Film
Festival in Locarno,
Italy. The film won no
awards, but caused
quite a bit of con
troversy. Another film
certian to cause con
troversy is Gore Vidal’s
Caligula starring Peter
O’Toole and Malcolm
McDowell. Lots of gay
hanky panky goes on,
I understand... When
asked why he never
talked about his
homosexuality, Truman
Capote tola an in
terviewer that,“nobody
ever asked me.” ft
should be noted that I
have never heard Mr.
Capote speak out for
homosexuality

Anyone who has ever

experts, monkeys are
the gayest of them all.”

anyone?....I’m sure
you’ve noticed the
number of gay themes
on T.V. this season. Not
everyone likes it. A
writer to the Atlanta
Journal writes: “I
realize that gay these
days is a way of life.
But it is not the most
normal way of life, and
I truly resent its con
stant recurrence.”
Have you ever thought
mam, that we gays
might get a little tired
of the ‘constant
recurrence’ of
heterosexual themes
pushed on us since the
day we were born?
