Our dear Miss Lillian has gotten Jimmy’s
barber in trouble. “He’s a...what do you call it?”
Ms. Carter asked when talking about her son’s
hairdresser. “We used to call it a fairy, but there’s
a new word for it. It’s a It’s a ...” After a reporter
suggested the word gay, Ms. Carter said, “That’s it
he’s gay, but he’s the best around.” As an af
terthought, Ms. Carter told the reporter, “Now
don’t print that or I’ll kill you. His mother doesn’t
even know.” Bet she does now Ms. Lillian...Former
pro football player and now up front gay, Dave
Kopay is bringing out his autobiography. Should
blow some macho minds...Anyone with a serious
interest in the history of our gay past should read
GAY AMERICAN HISTORY, a 700 page anthology
put together by Jonathon Katz. Among some of the
things revealed that I was unaware of.famous blues
singer Bessie Smith an Ma Rainey had lesbian
affairs...My gay brothers, if I could I would make
issue 207 (Jan. 12, 1977 ) of the Advocate must
reading. It has a comprehensive article on
HepaUtns and how it is at epidemic levels among
the gay community. It will scare the hell out of
you...Have you heard this one? Years back Dorothy
Parker called Montgomery Clift a“cocksucker”
and was upset by this because he was so beautiful.
When Parker mentioned this to Tallulah Bankhead,
she said she wasn’t sure Clift was a cocksucker
because “Darling he never sucked my
cock”...Opera singer Sherill Milnes interviewed in
the ADVOCATE said he didn’t know of any will
known opera singers who were gay. Conductors are
another matter, he said but declined to mention
them. AW c’mon Sherill stop with all the teasing
with the gossip and not delivering...Mary Renault’s
famous book, THE PERSIAN BOY is coming to the
screen. It’s about our brother Alexander the
Great’s gayness, Hope it does him justice. When oh
when will the FRONT RUNNER go into production.
I think they are afraid to make it,..1 am personally
appalled at some gay members and officers of
Integrity, the national gay organization for
Episcopalians who have come out against the or
dination of women priests. They cite scriptual basis
for their reasons. Using that reasoning of
justification could be found in the Bible for denying
ordination of homosexual priests. Let’s be con-
sistant now...An article in the Atlanta papers
quoted a local police officer as saying that gays in
Atlanta should be more discreet because of the pise
in homosexual murders in this city from one in 1975
to 11 in 1976. I would also suggest that out* straight
friends in the city be very discreet in 1977 as the
majority of murders in thistowii'are a resutfoT
heterosexual domestic arguments. And it’s more
than 11 let me tell you.. According to the AD
VOCATE a major Hollywood studio has announced
March 1977, THE BARB- 7
that it will produce a television biopic about a big
star of the 50’s. The ADVOCATE wonders if the
studio will be honest in depicting this gay stars
personal life. Who could this star be... I’m honestly
puzzled... A parting note...Hepatitus is becoming
the major plague in our community. It can put you
on your back for months causing severe financial
distress, not to mention mental stress and often
putting the victim in a severe state of depression.
There is no cure other than complete bed rest.
Fecal matter is a prime spreader of the disease, so
without any moralizing on my part, please brothers
and sisters use caution in rimming and anal in
