Page 10 — The Barb, November, 1977 im 6 Peep ’le Miss Carousel Selected in Knoxville . by Bill Smith Knoxville Competition was stiff for the title of Miss Carousel as twelve lovely contestants vied for the honor. Never argue with Jamie Chambers. Kimberley Dee was the winner; in this newly redecorated show! bar. This lovely lady simply 1 stole the show with herj presentation of “You Light Up! My Life.” 1 Jimmie Dee, the newly; crowned Miss Gay America,: made her first appearance since winning that crown and was a 1 lovely emcee. Lemmie Smith, a; local “good looking hunk”' helped out with the announcing chores and Rufus, the Carousel’s talented male lead was only one of their exceptional line of entertain ment. Other guest performers included Crystal Lambega, Adrianne Sanchez, Miss Gay Knoxville 1976-77, and Jamie Chambers. All in all, the Carousel put on an excellent pageant. Some of the planning, however, was not as good. The gay press was on the verge of walking out of the pageant until Rufus rescued us. Bobby Swinden of.Cruise had tripped over an unlighted step, fallen on his Camera and lost his car keys, all in a search for the press table. Rufus rescued both the Barb and Cruise from the downstairs bar and found us a front row table with the Carousel’s lovely waitress Jo Ann hovering nearby. We regret missing Rufus’s two numbers, but we didn’t miss' Jamie Chambers? numbers...both i on and off the stage. I love this girl to death and really hate to hear that she’s retiring — but please, Jamie, you’re too big a star for bar room brawls. —Photos by Gary Poe Kimberley Dee, everyone agreed she won Rufus - Most Hospitable ITJLViilpiii is Celebrates Sadie Hawkins’ Da ?
