"Somehow I hear a saxophone" Well...It's hard to say, I like what Porn Orchard does with the stop-start business, very brisk, tight and energetic and they rumble well in between, but I'd like to hear another dimension. Maybe a saxophone, a lead instrument? Do you remember "James White and the Blacks"? P.O. (great name by the way) pay such a detailed attention to precision rhythm breaks and clean muscle bursts that I think of jazz. Wxperimental punk rock jazz, of course. Somehow I hear a saxophone. So Mercyland will reform as an all girl band! Just a joke. But what will they be? It's hard to say...The drumming could be better is some ways; Joel (sorry Joey) has a more even feel and I always felt that with Harry Mercyland often hyperventilated prior to ejaculation. They could use a little sax, too (i.e. melodic support). I always thought I heard one on "Western Guns" anyway. Was it your bass, Dave? As for Harry, if you've got a question you've got to answer it. Let’s hope the cocaine and contagious diseases don’t ketchup to him before he wises up. After all, Jeff Gilley has a legitimate career and is still cool. So some more Athens bands will make records. Sure I'll buy them. I can’t believe the Fall have come out with a concept album devoted to the 'Care Bears’. If Billy James allows a three way compromise between Paul, Kelly, and Johnny they could be very cool; I don't know if they do or not, hang in there, Kelly. And the Killers, what a potential! What a lot of sperm on the ground. All for Arthur and Claire to clean up. If it’s half as good as it could be it will be very good. Let’s hope it is. Sometimes I thing Bar B.Q. could use a little more melodic support, too. Maybe a keyboard riff here and there played by an effeminate transvestite, of course. They are rhythmically perfect (quite often), but I don’t think Claire wants to do it aU. The thing with Dave B. was just a fling, we all knew that. 5 was too many (guitars) that's why the Stones killed Jones. But they were wrong big time, they never were as good. And Laura, let’s cut the pot intake to two strong bong hits a day. Check back with me in a month (let’s get high). OF THE ROCK #4 Quickly: the Squalls new L.P. sounds slightly under-produced. Recorded right these guys have a real commercial potential. Very much looking forward to new L.P.'s from Kilkenny (best lineup yet), Love Tractor (great new surf disco sound) and Dream So Real (much better than they think they are themselves). Musician never did say what Michael and Pete really disagreed on, did they? Probably playing arenas (I'll take that issue up another time.) Sleepy Labeef was a genius at the Rockfish! And what if Strawberry flats had really written all those songs? They’d be the best band ever, huh? Well almost. That’s the S.O.R. as I see it for now...Love Chip, 7.R.
