Tim Neilson: Well, obviously when
we were recording the 688 record we
had a limited budget and we were all
working at other jobs while we were
recording. Also, you're doing your part
at different times than the others and
you hear the finished product and it's
frustrating. You say, "I wish this could
have been different" but recording
with Island, instead of taking three
weeks to do an album, it took three
months.
Kevin: And that was the job.
Tim: That was the job. We'd get up in
the morning, go to the studio all day,
and go home late at night and sleep
and do that every day for three
months.
Flagpole: Did you expect that?
Tim: Well, we didn't know what to
expect. I was pretty nervous about it
but really excited at the same time.
We learned alot about recording.
Anything we didn't like on this album,
we changed. It was also weird being
put in different surroundings. Living in
New York, we didn't know anyone
except each other so we just hung out
with each other and at home we have
our families and our friends.
Kevin: The difference between
Scarred But Smarter and this one is
that Scarred But Smarter is an
excellent representation of what
Drivin' n' Crying' sounded like at the
time. It's not perfect but it sounded like
we did then and this record sounds
basically how we sounded when we
recorded it, which is kind of confused.
It's not a confusing record but we'd
lost our drummer (Paul Lenz) and we
were in a strange city. And that’s what
it sounds like. There’s a story behind
it. You know, these guys from Georgia
who have families in Atlanta go to the
Cily to make a record. And that's what
it sounds like.
