FP: How would you describe Let’s Active's music
without using a generic word like rock?
ME: I don't know. I just wouldn't be able to say that.
That's sort of a cop-out answer but It's the truth. I'd say
its pop music. Pop meaning that ifs not metal and
that it s not blues or something. But that's a pretty wide
category, too. Ifs rock music, you know. I don't
know, I guess since nobody's ever answered that
question very well, except for strict blues players or
something. I lust gave up on trying to formulate an
answer I could give to that.
FP: Your last album seemed to come at a time when
the band was going through a transition from the
Cypress lineup to what it is now. Was that intentional?
ME: The group did sort of fall apart after we did
Cypress, so I recorded Big Plans For Everybody alot
by myself, with just one or two other people at a time.
It really does reflect the sort of transition. I was trying
to keep the band going somehow or another and!
just wanted to go ahead with the recording so we'd
have a record. So I was doing alot of the stuff in there
by myself and as time passeanew people would
get involved. By the time we were finished recording
that, we had the three of us: Angle, Eric, and me
together which Is basically the band now. It was sort
of messy, and I would never put just me on the cover
but I didn't know who to put on the cover and I
thought It would be good to have a human on the
cover so...It was kind of a weird time to do a record
but it was time to have one out. So we did it then.
FP: How do you think that affected the sound of the
record?
ME: i think it was a good thing because I got to sort of
do it alone on that record, in a way that was not
possible on Cypress. I think I was writing a little bit
better songs and when you get alot of aeople
togelher In the studio at once 1 , for me anyway, ifs a
lot different feeling than when you're working by
yourself. I can really think about the song, when
There's other people I sort of just think about the other
people and you come out with a different kind of
record in a way. So in a way, not having to think
about anybody, just the songs, was really good for
