Flagpole • March 30, 1988 Page 8 S.O.R. M.T.V. COMES... ...to town. And what an excellent show it was. Easily two of the top five bands in town. This band contest was only barely publicized, but benefitted from the lack of stiff competition at other clubs in the area. A sellout crowd (during spring break, no less) packed the 40 Watt Club and no one left until 3 A.M. Proving that M.T.V. really knows how to party. Pat the soundman once again delivered. Excellent sound. With Music Television picking up the tab, everyone drank liberally. Unfortunately both bands were disqualified from the competition when their urine samples tested positive. Not letting that stop them, Iverson and Wangs stunned the inebriated crowd with their monstrous sonic assault on Paul McCamey and Wings in the cover band category and Sponge Fromme proved that reaching a little further and falling down can be fun. Look for their debut album out by Christmas. It is tentatively titled “Rock the Omni'. SHOUT SHUT DOWN Friday, March 25,1988, the offices of Shout Magazine were raided by the Athens Vice Squad, led by Leftenant Monte Greene (lead singer for the band Damage Report). Said Greene, "I just kicked open the door and flooded my pants with cum. There was a bevy of sluts in there the likes of which I've never seen". Shout was shut down for distributing pornography to minors. An unidentified Barnetts employee said, "We were glad to see it. Our Playboy. Penthouse and Swank sales had gone way down since Shout arrived on the Scene". APRIL FOOLS. Earlier in the week Leftenant Greene and his band Damage Report had punched in for another gut wrenching performance. A sight to see and a sound to sear. With Jolting John joining Bubbling Ben on guitar (adding additional physicality), I found myself hungering to see a synth-drum kit with a human operator up there. Any suggestions? Great show.
