Blue Plate Special
There will be a benefit on Monday,
May 2, for the Blue Plate Special
magazine at the Rockfish Palace. The
$2.00 cover will go to the publication,
which is edited by Cathy Hestor. There
will be poetry by several people,
including John Seawright, and a
couple of bands playing both
accoustic and electric sets.
Roger McGuinn
R.E.M.'s "jangly guitar" sound is
often compared to that of The Byrds.
Many journalists have said Peter
Buck's style is obviously influenced by
Byrds leader Roger McGuinn. Locals
will have a chance to see for
themselves if folk rock legend Roger
McGuinn is the jangly guitar prophet.
McGuinn will be playing accoustic
sets using his 12 string guitar that, when
amplified, was the basis of the Byrds'
sound on such hits as "Eight Miles
High" and "Mr. Tambourine Man".
Over his three decade career,
McGuinn has helped explore and
shape many new avenues of modem
music. He started his career in
Chicago at the Old Town School of
Folk Music and has now come full circle
to become once again a travelling
folk musician.
Now’s your chance to check out a
legend and to judge the R.E.M./Byrds
theory for yourself at the Uptown
Lounge on Wednesday, May 11.
