Flagpole • April 27, 1988 3 Human Rights Festival The Tenth Annual Human Rights Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1, on College Square in downtown Athens. The event is both a celebration of the rights we have and an outcry against those that are taken from us. There will be speakers and musicians from 6 p.m. -12 a.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. -12 a.m. on Sunday. The band lineup on Saturday includes Damage Report, Gravity Creeps, Squalls and MGB. Sunday’s bands include Club Ga Ga, Retro Groove and Widespread Panic. There will also be an Art Auction from 3 - 5 on Sunday. This event always seems to bring out the best in people and in bands, so come on out and pray it doesn't rain. Twilight Criterium The 9th annual Pepsi Twilight Criterium will be held Saturday, May 7, here in downtown Athens. The bicycle races are always an exciting and colorful event that include riders and teams from all over the world. The 1 kilometer track around downtown is lined with over 15,000 spectators. The first race, the Win and Out, starts at 5:45. The second race, the Women's Cup which is 30 K, starts at 6:45. The final race, the Pro/1/2 starts at 8:00 and is 60 K. The race lasts until after dark, and as the sunlight fails the race gets more and more exciting. So get there early enough to get a good spot on the sidelines of the course. The Ventures Like wow, they're known as the number one rock-pop instrumental group in the world, with hits like *walk. Don't Run", "Wipeout", and "Hawaii Five-O". They are the original Ventures. The Ventures have been around for more than two decades, a feat only a handful of bands have accomplished. The Ventures' biggest success has been in Japan where they areconsidered national heroes. Reviews of their live shows sav it's a performance not to miss. It will be a night of nonstop music Tuesday, May 10, at the Uptown Lounge when the Ventures surf in.
