Flagpole • June 15, 1988 £*$ge 5 OWNY MILDEW Downy Mildew started 3 1/2 years ago in Los Angeles. Charlie Baldonado (guitar, vocals), Jenny Homer (guitar, vocals), Nancy McCoy (bass), and John Hofer (drums) met when they lived in San Luis Obispo in college. They were all friends, then they got the idea for the band. Fir jpole gave them a few vague questions while they were in town to play at the Uptown. They took the list of questions back to their hotel and this is what was found in the mailbox the next day: Question: Why are you doing this? Answer: This is“an experiment, one which was forced upon us. It's a blind alley. We’re in it now anyway, although we have problems battling pot, we are generally well respected. Question: Why the Texas Hotel label? Answer: Clumping things together isn't necessarily our style, number one, we aren't maybe just a bit too talkative. We tend to be obsessed with but not including to's. Question: Where do you want to go? Answer: The lakers our main concern, trigger happy we are not. Morally we set goals too high. Probably, It's squishy, but we do believe in love. Question: What has the reaction been on the road in towns where you receive airplay? Towns where you don't? Answer: Not until we are done will we know the true effect. Mostly we just want Marshalls, sensitivity is our main goal long with a massive kick drum. Crowds are sponges and react accordingly. Question: Is is satisfying? Answer: Look Pal, we play in keys and mania lies unfortunately with Bands who don't. Unfortunately, most typical males. Ya, that's cute, now run along. -7-1:00 *.p0 r ^7 ;ocr 3
