Flagpole • July 13, 1988 Page 10 Descendants wanted it all The Descendents, one of the seminal California.bands, put out their last effort on vinyl for SST Records in 1987. The effort entitled "All" was not the swan song for the members of the "chainsaw pop" band. Original vocalist Milo Aukerman left the band and was replaced by ex-Dag Nasty vocalist Davis Smalley. The remaining Descendents and Smalley then formed All. The name reflects the band's desire to go for all — to avoid stagnation and not be satisfied with wallowing in their own sameness. The Descendents had been classified as a hardcore band but did not fit that mold even back when they started. They had always been a more pop and melodic band than the core punks and were evolving into a more hook and melody based band before Milo left. Now, with Smalley as the vocalist, the "agressive pop" band.has put out an album named "Allroy Sez..." that shows they are reaching for it all. The album provides catchy melodies and simple, direct song structures reminiscent of prior Descendents albums, but shows a stronger band guesting for a new mastery of all forms of music. All will be playing at the 40 Watt Club on Wednesday, July 20, with Ray Ugly opening. 3*«ptc Toh "VviV cartoon by JT Superstar ROLLER DISCO 2 JOHN S. & MICHAEL L SKATE NN THURSDAY JULY 28 10:30PM-1:30AM $2.50
