Flagpole • Sept.21, 1988 Page 4 Stipe and Michael Collins teamed up to organize a charitable event. They formed the Earth Love Fund just for this event which has turned out to be a lot bigger than they anticipated. Since the festival is going to-be larger than they had dreamed, the Earth Love Fund expanded its charitable scope to aid three other causes- Campaign for a Prosperous Georgia, Habitat for Humanity, and Jubillee Partners. The Campaign for a Prosperous Georgia is a utilities watchdog group that lobbies against rate hikes and ecological abuses. Habitat for Humanity ..is an orgaization that builds housing for low income families. The Jubillee Partners help refugees from Central America gain political asylum in Canada. The festival ticket sales are limited to 5000,and 2000 have already been sold in advance. The organizational committee hopes to sell all of the tickets in advance so they won't have to mess with sales at the sight. According to Michael Stipe, "Hopefully 5,000 people will show up and it's going to be a pretty great day. It's a lot of bands and it will be pretty cool." Michael will be backed up by ! the Indigo Girls. He said that k.E.M. is not going to be the surprise guests. "My guys are definitely out, P.eter will be playing with Robyn Hitchock outof town. When asked who it will be he replied "It's completely up in the air, I have no idea." Try to get your tickets in advance and don't even try to bring alcohol, it will be confiscated. Even though there will be food vendors there you might consider bringing a bag lunch. You don't want to go hungry at this musical feast.
