Hey, it’s a well known fact that they’re Ort’s favorite band and an eventful six months after
their first Athens appearance, GOVERNMENT CHEESE is back in town. The band hails
from Bowling Green, Kentucky, a town once memorable only for the swarm of Taco Ticos,
Pizza Huts, and fried fish-patty shacks along the main strip—but apparently Bowling Green
has undergone something of an alternative renaissance. They submit GOVERNMENT
CHEESE as evidence. Here is lyricism that will make your feet move and your head groove
up and down. The Nashville Music Awards committee has just announced its nominees for
1990, and GOVERNMENT CHEESE was nominated for eight awards including Song of the
Year, LP of the Year, Best Drummer, Best Songwriters, and Pop Band of the Year. If you see
this band play, interesting things are guaranteed to happen in your life...you might even go
back to Bowling Green and marry someone. Come dance and fall in love on Tuesday,
February 13 at the 40 Watt—by the time the show’s over it will be Valentine’s Day.

Bob’s Birthday Bash
Just a reminder about Saturday, February 10-it’s Bob Marley’s Birthday and the
celebration is at the GA. Theater. Culture will be hosting the show and there’s bound to be
a lot of skankin going on Culture hails from Kingston, Jamaica and their 1977 album “Two
Sevens Clash” is considered one of the best reggae albums ever produced. The group is
known for their soaring Mowtown-inspired harmonies laced over more traditional reggae
beats. Help celebrate Marley’s B-day in style by going to see a truely great and original
Jamacian band here in little old Athens.
