Who put the Bop
Athens, beware. BOP(havrey)) is coming down south to rock
your socks off. Traveling all the way from Providence, Rhode Island,
they wiil be appearing at the Rockfish Palace, Thursday, February
15
Called “America’s best reggae band” by reggae star Sugar
Minott, BOP(harvey) has already conquered the North and is
working their way to Athens. The band has won numerous awards,
including being named the WBRU/Michelob 1989 Rock Hunt
Winners in Providence. They beat out 267 other local and regional
bands for this special honor.
The seven guys, originally from East Lansing, Michigan, blend
many sounds to create their own.. Their music has been called
“world beat," which rock critics have defined as a mixture of reggae
with various other forms of music. Some songs are reminiscent
of reggae while others have more of a rock tempo. Horns play a
large part in their arrangements, giving the band a jazz flavor.
BOP(harvey) has recently released its second album, “’’Bread
and Circuses." The songs are very catchy, and, before you know
what has happened, you are humming along and dancing all over
the room. While all of their songs are fun, some have a political
message inside their accessible lyrics.
Be prepared to dance Thursday night for BOP(harvey) is one of
the best new bands around. You definitely don’t want to miss their
unique sound. Their music is one that everyone will enjoy. Besides
playing their own stuff, the band is likely to play a cover of a song by
Bob Marley, The Grateful Dead, or Hank Williams. And remember,
don’t worry, be happy.
